RMS Power ? on Alpine Type-R's
Wednesday, May 07, 2008 6:51 PM
Ok, right now I have a (2) 12" Dual 4 ohm Alpine Type-R subs (SWR-1242 or something like that). They are being powered by a Viper Audio D1200.1 Amp. I'm picked up a single 12" box tonight and plan on going to a single sub setup to gain some of my trunk space back.

My question is what can these Type R take on a normal basis for RMS Power. Alpines site says its rated at 500w RMS & 1500w Max. Is that all I can safely due? It'll be running at 2 ohms, my amp will put out 800w RMS & 1500w Max set up like that. Is 800w RMS too much?

I think they should be able to take 1000 RMS

500 each?

or am I not understanding this correctlly...

dual 4 ohms at 2 Ohms

500 RMS each sub and your amp is 800 RMS? so your underpowering them by 200 RMS

I think thats how it works...

I think 800RMS would be fine. Im looking to find something that will power my 2 type R's at about 650-750 each.
How is that Viper amp working for both subs btw??

with both subs i'm powering them at 1 ohm. my amp does 1200w RMS at 1 ohm, so they're getting 600w RMS a piece. i want to go down to a single sub to gain trunk space back. then it would be 800w at 2 ohm.

Viper amp is great, hence why I really want to use it again and not have to get something else when I go to a single Type R. I have it running 1200w (600w each) RMS to both subs at 1 ohm. Sounds great.

thanks. thats about the exact same info I could find on caraudio forums. Highest daily driver was 750w RMS. So I think if I'm careful and smart about it, I'll be fine.

ahhh thats what I didn't understand

your goig to 1 sub at 1 ohm...

for 600 RMS and the amp is 800 RMS...

yah just watch the Gain on the amp, don't overpower it

your best bet is to get the audio files and a multimeter and test it when your tune your amp
