I agree! The alpine one is the best sounding powered ones that i have heard so far. If i went that route, it would be in my car

if you want cheap with decent sound, just go with a circuit city/best buy package. comes with subs, box, and amplifier. all you need to do is buy the wires and install it. they're normally under 300 bucks and they sound decent. my first sub setup was an mtx package from circuit city that i got for like 250, second setup was a pioneer setup that i got from best buy for around 300. they sound good and they're cheap.

if you just want something that sounds decent, that'll work.

GO PATS!!!

I just ordered some Alpine Type R's from here. It's very cheap. I ought to get my order on Friday. If you want to have it checked out before you order from there, I'll subscribe to this thread and get back to you. UPS says it's in the mail.

my self i would get a Lanzar MAX10 st sub.... thats what i am running with a MTX TC2002 2 channel amp... 1 10 in an L ported box spec'd to the sub & tuned at 35hz & man o man o man it hits hard
the subs are meant for small enclosures, & work best in a ported box...

my box is 20 X 19 X 14 with a 2.5 inch wide port.... OMG what a pounding little sub

cost me 26.00 for the sub plus shipping

http://www.allaudioexpo.com/ is where i got it & my Lanzar VX320 3.5 inch dash speakers

1 sub, 2 dash & shipping was 69.00

& well worth it

what are the bandpass systems on that site and are they good?

liek this?
http://www.allaudioexpo.com/nav/details.asp?itemid=221&catid=112

i cant seem to find the RMS?

Re: Wanting to add subwoofer to car

well they are legacy subs & the pdf manual for them only lists peak power of 1000 watts for the 2 subs in the box, that means they are 500 watts each peak, thats not that good...my lanzar is 400 watts rms & 800 peak with a SVC 10 inch, i am pushing 200 watts rms 600 peak into it & I am very very happy with it, if you are going to go with 2 subs i would go with DVC subs, or if you are putting in 1 sub & plan to put a second sub in later i would go with a DVC sub also... i only plan on running the 1 sub in my car so thats why I went with a SVC sub.

I built my own box with Lanman's help.... he help me get the specs for the box & get it figured out what size & all it needs to be, he will tell you too that Lanzar is good but inexpensive...

luckily i allready had the material for my box at home....so all the cost i was out was for my time to cut the pieces & the liquid nails & the screws to put the box together with & yes i used screws not nails, i pre drilled pilot holes at 1.5 inches deep & used 2 inch long deck type screws & i have no cracks in my mdf at all

he showed me a great site to design a L ported box at

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

put in your box dimensions & port dimensions & it'll tell you what each board needs to be cut at & what hz the box will be spec'd at

but yeah back to the legacy bandpass.... i would not really go with those due to the low peak power they handle..

now there are other sites that have boxes that you can put your sub in, but i fealt better building my own...

only thing left in my car audio to do is replace the cheap aftermarket 6x9's in the back

I will be going with Lanzar 3 ways for that too

hope this helps

okay yeah im gonna get one 10 for now but i guess ill just buy the box as if i make it it will come out crappy lol i guess ill just copy your setup. i to have to replace the 6x9's. but my pioneer 4x6's are old so ill probably change those to. and amp em

kewl.....

Like I said the Lanzar sub likes small ported boxes...

the box volume(ft3) is 1.71 on my ported box....i like the fact that with my top up it is loud & full of hard hitting bass inside my car & with the top down you hear it inside & outside as well.

now note the alpines are good subs & the type r's are not that expensive really...

but they were out of my budget range...

I mean the entire sound system in my car is inexpensive but good...

i have lets see i think like 190.00 total in my setup, i got lucky & found my amp on ebay for 25.00 shipped to me....it's a 200.00 amp...& it is a class D amp

am a married man with teenagers & my wife doesn't work so i am very very budget minded...

but i will be amping my other speakers once i replace my 6x9's , i have a 2 ch amp in storage that is old school non bridgeable & i am thinking about hooking that on my dash speakers & maybe finding another similar amp for my 6x9's to be hooked to unless i find a deal on a 4ch amp i can't pass up as long as the amp fits my needs....

you can pics of all my stuff on my car domain page, go check it out give you some ideas, now note my sub box is complete but i still have to get the material to cover it to make it 100% complete

well i don't work for them so i can't guarantee anything, but they are 1 of the first sites when you do a car audio search in google & that means they get alot of traffic & do alot of biz i can imagine

so i say it would be a safe bet that you won't have any problems, you can always call them & ask questions & then place your order

build your own box, it will sound infinitely better

"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

im not to handy with wood and im almost sure it will come out wrong so scratch building my own. plus it would proabably end up costing me more as i would screw up so much so is that a good build? should i get another box?
