with Ipods and the like with music so readilly available, what is keep people from plugging directly into their amp?
I see the head unit slowly becomeing a thing of the past. what r your thoughts?
i dont ever connect my iphone/ipod to the HU or to the amp. plus you would need a line driver or EQ/processor to boost up the output voltage. Idk though i happy with my kenwood
24bit burr-brown DAC's ftw
no i think that the hu will stick around just cause people would have run a eq and all that for tunning and the hu just makes it way simpler for the everyday listener. but for show purposes it would be cool to have a completly shaved head unit and still have music. i think it would be cool to glass a ipod touch in place of the stock hu.
some people still strive for quality sound out of their music and as of right now none of those compressed devices is giving a clean sound.
your allready starting to see headunits with hard drives in them. soon youlle just be able to download full cd's into headunits hard drives without compression i'd bet. then you wont even need to plug your ipod in, youlle allready have the music with you.;

it is wonderful isnt it. there is way too much tweaking ability on some higher end head units to see them go completely away.
i just burn mp3 cd's and im sure it sounds better than an ipod.....
i just got a new pioneer headunit... thats ipod ready, it has the usb plug> but since i dont use my ipod and i only use my blackberry i just connect my blackberry to the unit and go from there/ oh and you can contol the music from the deck. two aux inputs and the one rca input and then yo9u have the usb port
