which sub?

ok so i finally got my kicker 1000.1 amp, hooked it up to my sub(2400 watt lanzar, and i blew it lol smoke was everywhere)so now im trying to decide weather or not to go with one 15"kicker l7 1000watt...or to go with 2 12" kicker cvr 500rms 1000peak...both are 4 ohm with dual voice coils....and yes just in case you didnt kno the l7 is the square woofer

i would go with the 15" kicker 2 reasons one save some trunk space and two this way if u have 2 12" hooked up and only one of them blow then u can mess up ur amp pretty bad and it will cut out completely even if the other sub is good

that made no sense

If you got the 15 l7 you will need to get the d4 model because the amp is only 2 ohm stable. If you got the 2 12's you need the d2 model not the d4 like you said.

are you going to have a sealed or ported box? if ported then.......

Both are about the same size in cone area ( only about an inch off) both require roughly the same ammount of airspace (3 cubic ft for the 15, 3.5 for the 12's ) i would go with the 12's just because you would need less height in the trunk and 15" high would be a problem when you have a 3 cubic foot box in the trunk.

so i def need to get a 2 ohm sub
the reason i was leaning toward the 15 was because i already have a 15" ported bandpass box

you need your final impedance to be 2 ohms. a single D4 sub will have a final impedance of 2 ohms. 2 D2 subs will have a final impedance of 2 ohm. but now my personal opinion, get the l7. if you were looking at cvx's instead of cvr's id say cv but the l7 is IMO a much better sub

to bad you need a dual 4 sub to get your amp to 2 ohms. if you wire that sub at 1 ohm to you amp kiss the amp bye bye

kicker amps arent 1 ohm stable anyway are they?

??????????

What stephen said IS correct. The OHM load is the resistance the amp sees depending on the resistance and wiring of the subs. If you have a dual voice coil subwoofer that is rated at 4ohms, when you wire them up you are going to end up with a 2 ohm or 8 ohm load, the subwoofer ultimately tells you what ohm the amp is going to be running at. If the amp is not advertised to be stable at anything other than what's listed, it more than likely will blow up.

Now if you got just one 15" L7, you should be fine because they are dual 4ohm voice coil, so your final load should be 2ohm.

I would advise you go check out www.caraudio.com/forum and read up so you don't blow another sub and/or amp, or even worse, start an electrical fire and your car go up in flames.

^^^^ he wont be fine cuz he didnt pay attention and bout the dual 2 ohm l7. so now hes screwed himself over. stephen an d i both said to go dual 4 but for some reason e went dual 2. oh well. not my problem.
