It's more like a 1 1/2 Din...so no our factory size is not a double din. But I'm pretty sure the messages following this one will tell you that it can be done..it just won't be a direct factory fit..thats all.
yup, there is definitely a bracket kit to make it screw right in, but cutting will be required for the besel.
ok to clear this up ...
95-99 jbodies are in fact .. 1 1/2 din radios ... and 2000-2005 jbodies ARE [b double din. .. in fact most GM models are double din as of now! you audio guy probably is a bit confused with the designe changes the jbodies went through with this generation. seeing how the interior look very similer but are in fact different.
I have a 2000 model Z-24. It is not a double Din..I can tell you that for sure.
to add to the above post..i also owned a '98 Z24...and it has the same radio as the 2000
i can bet your for sure that the 200-2005 radio Are not the same size.
and i know for sure your 98 didnt not have the same radio as your 2000... one the 95-99 radios are located below the hvac controls.. and the cavity is 1.5 din. the 2000-2005 cavalier radio is located above the hvac controls. those are 2din radios !!! now prove me wrong and i will agree with you but until then .. your wrong buddy .. in fact i will prove you wrong .. trust me i have has stereos in all my cavs .. 4 to be exact... 96-98-20002- 2003

the only way you can tell the diff just by looking is that the double dins were moved above the hvac. so if your 2000+ has it above the hvac it is a double din, as it should be.
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
double din radio .. used from 2000-2005
heres the 1.5 din from 1995-1999 cavs
now explain how your two radios were the exact same?
In any case although technically everywhere you look it will say 2000+ is Din 1/2 (technically it is, just the FACE is double DIN) You can cut the plastic behind the radio opening and fit any DD radio in there.
Done it literally dozens of times.
