Factory stereo works, but has no sound
Monday, July 07, 2008 12:26 AM
I have a factory MP3 player stereo in my 04 Sunfire and its not a monsoon. It has worked great for almost 3 years until last week. I was setting at a light and when the light turned green I punched the gas a little and the stereo went quiet. It did come back, but it seemed to come and go. The radio has stayed on the entire time, cd player still works, its the sound that has quit working. My first thought was a loose wire. I noticed today you could hear a weird static type sound even with the radio turned off. It was the alternator, it came and went to. I pulled the stereo out to take a closer look and all of the wires are attached good. All fuses look good. Since I don't have a factory amp that isn't a concern. I'm not sure where else to look. I really don't want to but a new hu, especially if this is a loose connection somewhere. Any ideas or other places to check?
Thanks for your time

Disconnect speakers one by one until you find out which is shorting.

check your 6x9's in the back.....if you alwasy put stuff in your trunk you mave have hit the speaker terminal and broke it ....now the wire is grounding out making you have no sound, check the 6x9's first
