putting a stock 02 headunit into a 97

My friend had his cavalier busted into, and they took his aftermarket stereo... he decided to go back to stock, but likes the 02 stock radio better than the 97 version... he wanted me to ask if you guy knew if they were interchangable...

i saw the sticky about 00+ being a class 2... but didnt see anything about interchangablity... nothing about putting one in something.... it was all about what happens if you take them out.

so i just wanted to ask..... can you put a 02 in a 97.... and if so what all would y0ou need to do it?

Nope, the 00 and up will not work in 99 and down. The head unit verifies with the computer that it's in the right vehicle. Besides, there's an amp in the trunk on the left hand side that would have to be installed as well.

and the most important reason that it wont work is cuz 00+ stereos are double din while 99 and down are 1.5 din. It quite simply wont even fit into the opening

"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

^^JBO is about not being that guy

It wouldn't work but all double dins don't have to use an amp. It still won't be able to come on and to fit you would have to go 00 up on the dash.

If it can't drag, it ain't low enough!
