Hey guys,

just wondering about the radio illumination for our harness. I installed a deck in my wife's car a while back (04 Mustang) and was able to connect the deck to a dash illumination wire in the car harness to have the deck dim (slightly) when you turn on the lights.

I am now in the process of putting a new deck in my 02 Sunfire and was wondering if the dash illumination or the dimmer wire in our harness will allow the same feature (the deck supports it). My previous stereo didn't dim even though it had the ability.. however that deck was installed in the shop and i don't think they bothered with hooking it up.

Anyway i was looking at the harness and of course both the dimmer wire and dash illumination wire are there but so is the switched 12v wire and we all know there is no point in connecting anything to the switched 12v. So are these wire available to use, did anyone bother this before. Most people don't care to have their lights dim but i would like to.

I have hooked up my HU in my 2001 sunfire (I Have an Apline IDAX300) and I hooked up the dimmer, works great, although it only has 2 states, bright and dim, it still dims when I turn the lights on. Stupid HU....

In the other car the wire for the deck dimmer had to be connected to the dash illumination wire. Thats why i asked as different cars different ways.
