Okay, so my friend has an american bass 12" sub in a bandpass box with a crunch 700 watt amp. He offered me a trade, his complete system i just named for 2 of my audiobahn 12s in box + another audiobahn flame series 12 (AW1251T) with no box. Im not sure what kind of audiobahns the ones are in the box, but i know the guy that had them before me had 500 watts going to them, no problem. I think the american bass is rated 1000 watts peak, but im not sure, basically what im asking is, is this a good deal? Is american bass any good? Thanks, any help is appriciated.
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
My Audiobahns were 10 inch Natural Sound, which are the lowest watt rated subs, and they were 300 watts apiece and they hit pretty well in a crappy home built box and a Pyramid amp. From what I remember the 12 inch Natural Sounds are still like 400 rms so I think you're better off with what you got. My opinion sell the flame series one and buy a decent amp. I would know for sure on the watts for those but Audiobahns website won't load for me so sorry.
Alright. I do have a legacy 1600 watt amp, I think it could push those audiobahns pretty well, just keep the gains down just in case lol, but I know that american bass does hit, ive never heard my audiobahns in a car though, thats where my problem comes in, since ive never heard my subs, and ive heard that one, and know that one hits, im leaning to it.. im not sure what kind of audiobahns mine are, the only thing they have on them when taken out is RB and some numbers on a sticker... the basket and everything is just plain.. anyone know what they are? They dont have those chrome rings like the new subs, theyre like a plastic/rubbery ring to seal it kind of. Thanks!

That statement shows me that you know NOTHING of car audio.
American Bass is widely regarded in the SPL realm as one of the loudest, most reliable manufacturers in the game. Their VFL line is very, VERY desireable when it comes to SPL (or building anything loud for that matter). Their amps are used ubiquitously in dbdrag, and their HD subwoofer line is very similar to the Audioque HDc3 and Digital Designs 9500 g-series. Hell, their VFL subwoofers are pretty much an Atomic APX, which itself is a proven SPL monster.
Which model of American Bass sub is it? I can't tell you if the trade is worthwhile, as I don't know what model bahns you have, but American Bass is nowhere near junk. Even their lowest level stuff isn't bad by a long shot.

To be honest, I have no idea, on the cone, dust cap in the middle it says american bass, and then like the part of the cone coming to the center, it has kind of ribs, theyre kind of like half circles spaced apart from each other going around it, if that helps?

That legacy 1600 watt amp doesn't put out 1600 watt, nor is it clean. You're going to be hard pressed to have that amp power a vibrator.

I know plenty about car audio, i just never heard of American Bass. I know you haven't heard of every brand out there and if American bass is good then my bad but the name sounds like some garbage....oh well. Me personally i would stick to what i got because there must be a reason why he wants to trade with you, he might be trying to take advantage of you. I would say just keep your set up.

you gave an opinion because "the name sounds like some garbage"???? If someone asks opinions about a certain brand, and you haven't even HEARD of it, why on dog's green earth did you post an opinion????? Guys with no experience are the last people who should be offering advice.
No I'm not intimately familiar with every brand, but I sure as hell don't go around giving opinions on things I've not even heard of. Bad information is 100000x worse than no information at all.

I haven't heard of American Bass but just out of design theory wouldn't two 12s hit harder than one 12 just because of the doubled amount of air being pushed. But ya its just theory. My friends Camaro has on Pyle being pushed by a Memphis amp and it hits harder than my 2 12s given mine are pieces of sh**. But that has something to do with the shape of the Car itself acting as a bullhorn so to say.
What works for me is take the number code off of it and go on Yahoo and type it in and see what comes up. Sometimes you'll get owners manuals and such. I'd say search around.
In theory, doubling the cone area will yield a 3db increase in SPL.
But in the real world, that's often not the case.
For one, not all 12" subs are created equal. Second, the lion's share of a sub's performance is intimately controlled by the install. 2-12s in a crappy install could easily be outperformed by a single 12 (or 10, 8 etc) in a great install, even if they're all the same model and were put in the same vehicle. Hell, just look at our cars: fire your subs/ports forward, then turn them around and fire backward and see if there's a difference in overall frequency response and/or SPL. You quickly realize that getting loud, or hitting low, is much more complicated than just buying sub X and amp Y.....

Ya i agree with you. I have Kenwood and Pyramid which are both pretty much crap as far as quality systems go and I've spents hours in my car tuning it and tweaking stuff and as of now it doesn't sound too bad for what it is but now I'm saving to upgrade to a full Rockford system.
so...................much..........................misinformation.

Blah... so does anyone know anything about this sub? I've searched everywhere and found nothing. I was wondering as to what it was rated at watts wise. If anyone could help, i'd appriciate it.

i know i know i still read but very rarely waste the energy to say anything. lot of childish type questions going on here. my car is set to go to the shop next week so when it comes out i guess ill go ahead and start rebuilding to show them all how real players roll huh?
AB makes great subs.and amps.
they are widely used in SPL but are a good SQ sub as well.
im pretty sure that model is a 500RMS

Ok. So is the power im putting to it okay? The amp I have on it is rated at 700 watts into 1 channel @ 4OHMs. It is wired in parallell which would take it to a 2 OHM load, then I have it on the bridged output on the amp, so it would be a 1OHM load correct? Roughly how many watts would that be putting to it? Thanks.
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
well in truth you could go with a bigger amp.AB is easily able to take more Watts.
im not totally sure but i think that amp is good for 300RMS @2ohm i dont think it goes down to 1ohm
first thing is to find out what ohm the coil is on the sub then get an amp thats about 200rms higher.that way your not maxing out the amp.it will work run more stable.and sound better.
IF the coil is a 4ohm coil then you need a 4ohm stable amp thats about 700RMS
but im guessing thats a 2ohm model to an amp about 700RMS @2ohm
what coil is the sub.???

On the back it says "4 layer 2 inch kaptonic voice coil" Not sure what that means but it also sounded important lol. But it is a single 4 OHM coil. Thanks.
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
so what you need is a good 700RMS @4ohm
what ever the ohm of the coil is thats the finale load back to the amp
if it was a duel 4ohm sub the you could get 2ohm or 4ohm depending on the way you wire it.
glade to help.
great pick for a sub
if your looking for high power heavy hitting subs take a look at my TFone link
we also have an every day user sub in testing now.it will be about 100$ cheaper

Ok. So the crunch amp I have probably isnt going to work? Is it okay to have it on the bridged output like I have it? Thanks again. BTW, I sent a PM about your subs.
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
yeah it will do you fine for now.it may cut out when you start pushing on it.but it will do till you come across something better.
i have a set of Kicker ZX2500.1@2ohm for sale 650$ each or 1200$for the set.
one amp is almost a year old the second is only a few months.
SPL season is over time to get bigger and louder for next year.
