headunit cuts out
Saturday, August 02, 2008 4:31 AM
hey everyone i had a quuestion my headunit cuts out when i turn the volume up to or past 25 depending on how i have the EQ set. if its set for the sub, lows and highs at 0 it will cut out at 23 with them at -10 it cuts out at 27. BUT if im driving above 55mph then it will stay on till i come to a stop then once i stop its cuts out again. im not sure y my guess was the ground for my amp or ground to the headunit itself but its not the amp. i didnt try the headunit yet because it sound like something else and im not sure y that would affect it when my RPMs r high or low. any other ideas?

The RPM thing sounds like maybe your alternator is beginning to fail, and the lower voltage at idle is causing the stereo to cut out. Does the "cut off" volume get lower still if you add additional electrical load, such as the cigarette lighter or rear defroster?

heh king, when you say "cuts out", does the entire hu shut off, then turn back on, or do you just lose the mids and highs??? My car did the SAME thing, my problem was that im running 2 amps for my subs and the gains for each sub were completely opposite. I evened them out and the problem went away. IF you could, try and give us some specific details, type of equipment you have, what your amp is pushing, stuff like that.

and the altenator i jus replaced with a 200w altenator thinkin that it was y it was cutting out also but it still has not fixed the problem. and no the volume does not vary if somathing else is on or pluged in

hey, I had this problem... It trned out that my remote power source for the hu was not pwerfull enough or had a short. I was using the ignition as my remote turn on for the head unit. I used a 12 gauge wire and wired the power/remote directly to the battery. It wokred awesome after that. I jus have to turn the hu on by touching a button now instead of turning the key over. try it out and let me know how it goes. I could about guarantee you this is yor problem.

My friends 95z would do it. For some unknown reason. It had alot of current draw at the head unit. Was also a sony xplod just like the one i have. I noticed when i pulled factory radio out of my 99 and stuck my sony in it. With all the stock speakers and no subs the cd player would dim real bad not even turning it up loud. So i took and grounded the ground wire to the firewall instead of the harness and fixed my problem. Give that a try might work.

yes, I agree. I would take the ground and power wires and wire them up directly to the battey (power) and ground to a sure source (sand down a piece of metal to insure good contact and ground).
