Its a great device, I was a little ticked about the fact that it cost as much as it did and didn't include a CD Player but I have since gotten past that. The controls are really easy to use, and it sounds great. If you have any questions about the unit I would be happy to answer them.

The bad thing about the alpine iPod decks is that they have ZERO tweakability when it comes to audio. No HPF, no adjustable LPF for the sub, 2-band EQ, even in the higher-up models.

that's cause they figure if you want that stuff, you'll buy the pxa-h701

If you want adjustability then definitely don't get one of the IDA models. I am happy with my CDA-9885, it is the second CDA model I've had. They have pretty good adjustability as far as Alpine decks go, and iPod usability is just as easy (and I like it better) than any IDA model with the screen. Check out the newer CDA models, you won't be upset.

not completely true, there is a HPF. but i alreaady had the AINet system and the control module for it so i dont really use the decks eq

I have this deck and I'm fairly satisfied with it. It could definitely stand to have more variable parameters for audio tuning, but it has the basics (bass, treble, sub level, HPF, even sub bandwidth and center frequency control). Overall, it's a great deck for iPod control, but it lacks extensive tuning capability.

yeah i have the CDA-9857 i believe and i absolutely love the ipod controls AND the amazingly clean sound it puts out. I do however, dislike the lack of "tweakability" really all i have in that terms is bass, treble, and sub. But i would say that if your lookin for a ipod-friendly hu with excellent SQ, go with any Alpine HU, as long as you can deal without the cd player, go with the ida series

144db@38hz! It hurts so good !
