I've been looking into getting a car alarm but I've got a few questions. The consensus in car alarm posts is to get one with a pager so I've been looking at the AutoPage RF420LCD since it has some good reviews and isn't too expensive. Thoughts?
Since I have manual everything(locks, windows, trunk, etc.) will the pager still alert me when one opens? I read in another post that the locks don't matter since the door pins tell the alarm, I just have to remember to lock the car. But is the same true about the trunk?
I've also read that a battery backup and passlock 2 bypass module are necessities but are there any other add-ons I should look into? I'm not looking for remote start or power anything, just an effective pager alarm.
1. Battery backup isn't necessary, just a good idea.
2. Passlock 2 bypass is necessary only if want a starter. If you're doing an alarm you won't use it at all.
3. As far as what sets it off, doors will go off whenever the system is armed and the doors are opened.
Windows will set off the alarm if they are broken, as long as the alarm has a shock sensor (or glass break sensor)
The trunk will set it off, but only if wired in, and a relay will be required to convert the + trunk pin (light) to a negetive signal.
The other option is to add push pins to the trunk (or the hood), which would also set it off when either was opened.
1. I should have said I knew it wasn't necessary but most posts stress that it's worth the money.
2. Thanks.
3. I'm not worried so much about the hood since it's harder to get into than the trunk. Could you explain how to wire the relay to convert the trunk light to a negative signal for the alarm? I've got a 30 amp 4 pin relay laying around here somewhere.
I also decided to go with the Omega K-9 Classic and Echo-2 Pager Upgrade. A little more expensive but I've yet to find a bad review for either.
