System Install

I'm in the process of installing a system into my Sunfire. Something that will take the crack heads a little while to steal.. So far I've gotten the MB Quartz 5 1/4" components up front, the power lines, rca's, remote, and ground wires run for the 2 kenwood amps. I got the Kaption Subwoofer box made (by me), and got it carpetted at a shop because it was cheaper to get them to do, then for me to go out, buy the tools, supplies, and learn to carpet myself.

Anyways here's a pic of what you can see so far.

The amps are hidden behind the fiberglass facia,. All that is left to do is to get the deck, get the deck installed, and plug the fuses into the wiring, oh yes, and replace the rear 6*9's.

And clean the trunk... Hopefully I'll have it all done this weekend.

the crack heads wont even know where to start lol.

ever thought of using the same carpet and covering the other areas of the truck so it flows?

i thought about it, just because the carpet wasn't a perfect match, but for now this will be a good enough install, especially since I'm not going for show... More for practicallity, in terms of sound, and security. With the amps installed you can't get the sub out the trunk, with the trunk closed you can't get the subs out from the back seat, and the amps are bolted in with hilocks- an aircraft fastener, that torques down and the nut snaps off, leaving a collar, with no easy way of removing (unless you know how to, and have the tools to remove it on you when you're breaking into my car.... So with the box bolted down, the amps put in with hilocks,.. And the sub being such a tight fit in the speaker ring that it won't just dump out of the box, if you unbolted it... you would actually have to probably remove the terminal cup from the back end to be able to press the sub out the hole.. I think my stereo install will atleast slow the crack heads down.

very clean install.
I like it, would like to know more about your setup you are running and if you ever TL it.

Some great ideas for system security here. Nice job. I especially like the hilocks. Never thought (or knew) about those. Hmmm...

Good luck to the crack-heads.

sub looks small for sure, but looks can be decieving and often are. looks clean, I like it but have fun accesing your spare or jack

Yeah... It's just a single 10" sub... nothing major. Just a little something to fill in the missing sound. and when I built the box, i actually ensured I could still get the spare and the jack out..... undue the screw thingy... lift the cover.. hold it up while i take the jack and accesories out... slide the tire forward a bit... and it still comes out..

Anyways back to the install.. Today I decided i didn't like the mb quart components in the doors, so I've started to build some kick panels. got them glassed, just have to smooth and sand, and of course get vinyl put on them. I'm hoping that having them in a sealed enclosure instead of open air in the door, they'll sound better.

So... hopefully tommorow I'll have the kicks finished, well atleast to the point they are ready for vinyl.

Well I got the kick panels done today (well done to the point of needing vinyl or paint) so tommorow its off to the shop to see if they can wrap them in vinyl. Hopefully the kicks will improve the sound of my mb quart components. The problem was that my mbquarts are actually 6 1/2" speakers not 5 1/4", and I ended up having to trim some sheet metal back to get them to sit nicely in the door, using an angled adapter. Well one of the doors isn't trimmed enough, so when I turn on rap music, which isn't that often, the one speaker "farts" against the door skin. plus the angled adapter didn't give me enough angle to center the sound, and instead of making another angled adapter, or trimming the door anymore, I decided to build the kicks. Hopefully it all works out good for me, I'll find out soon enough.

Finished Installing the system for the time being this weekend. I Still have to upgrade the rear speakers, then I'll want to upgrade the 4 channel amp, because the amp is only 35 watts rms * 4, and the fronts alone are 50 w - 120 w rms.. I Ended up installing a Pioner DEHP700BT head unit with Sirius Tuner, the mb quartz returned to the doors (I figured out I don't like kick panels down where I like to rest my feet or where my passengers rest their feet, it's just asking for speakers to get wrecked. but I built a new spacer for the mb quartz, with no angle, and that improved the sound dramatically. I also finished the Big "3". Bought an orbital battery and installed it. All in all, it was a very productive weekend. I have to say one thing, the blue tooth technology for this pioneer, is absolutely amazing, i use the handsfree and there is no echo, it sounds like i'm sitting right next to the person on the phone... it is so much better than the "speaker phone", and now, I don't have to be one of those asses talking on my phone, drinking my coffee, switching lanes, with no signal light, while i look at my teeth in the mirror. well atleast now i'll be one of those asses, talking to nobody (well thats what it'll look like from outside the car), drinking my coffee, switching lanes, and using my signal light, while i look at my teeth in the mirror.
