mtx or kicker
Thursday, September 11, 2008 7:09 PM
ok long story short, i had 1 15" l7 and a zx1000.1, and it got stolen....what should i do for my next system...ok i already have another 15" l7, but im contemplating on weather or not what to do...should i keep my l7 and just run another kicker zx1000.1 or should i buy the mtx jackhammer 1200.1....whats your opinion, it could even just be a completley diffrent setup, and ideas?

Well it depends on your budget, you seem to like getting loud more than sounding clean by your sub choices. There is no reason not to use the 15L7 you have now... as far as amps, anything that will provide the right amount of power is going to get the job done. But like I said, budget has a lot to do with it. What are you looking to spend on the amp?

personally I wouldnt do the jackhammer I would go to the 9500 series, but if you already have a L7 stay with it and throw 1200 straight clean watts to it and enjoy IMO

I would keep the 15 L7, i had the same setup in my car with a custom box in the back seat and a 1200 watt kicker amp, i loved that setup some much, i had a buddy with 4 12" type r's and my car was still louder than his car, but now that i have a son i had to get rid of my setup to put the back seats back in. So just keep what you got i would.

Ok, yeh money really isnt an issue right now...and i am thinking long and hard about putting 2 15" l7's and maybe a 1500.1 amp. Or do you guys think that it would sound just as good w/1 l7 and a 1000.1?

dont you think taht it wouldnt hit as hard tho...because i would only be getting 500 watts to each sub

if u do 2 L7 than that would need a really big box and if u dont get the box in spec with the sub than it will sound bad. i would stick to one unless u get an other amp for the second sub thats the only way u would get both to sound good.

I would keep the L7, put it in a vented box tuned to 35Hz, and send it 1000W of good, clean power. KIcker Solobaric subs really wake up when placed in a vented enclosure.

well i really wasnt planning on a ported box..and kicker doesnt recommend a ported box unless it is 3.0 cubic feet...idk tho would it be allright...well i would make one again but i really dont have the time to devote to make a good one..lol..

Don't get me wrong, sealed will work just fine, especially for SQ. If your looking for SPL, vented is the way to go. Make sure you give the sub adequate power, and you'll be happy.

Go with that Lanzar setup I showed you. They like small boxes, and it will wang.

I'm with Lanman. It will even sound like music that way

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

Yeah, for the same price, you're getting double the power, and an amp that can be strapped. Optidrive is good, and I wouldn't be running 4 subs + components of theirs it if it was junk.

one vented 15 on the 1000w amp will be louder than the 2 15's on a 1500w amp

How do you figure this?

Re: mtx or kicker

2- speakers are going to be underpowered. underpowered subs sound like poop. why would you double the subs but not double the power???

i was also implying that you could go with more cubic feet if using just one sub
Re: mtx or kicker

^ agreed. if your gonna run 2 15 L7's u need twice the power. im running 2 15" L7's myself, in a 4.5 cu sealed box with a 2400 watt amp and a planet audio line driver.. i practically dont have my amp turned up and my back window moves alot. get a line driver. you wont regret it. before i got the bigger amp i was running a hifonics 1200 bx brutus, wasnt NEAR the amount of power i needed. the subs sounded weak. besides 1 15'' solo only needs 1.5 cubes sealed minimum. i have an extra 1.5 cu and it beats. best of luck to ya

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!

You guys are both smoking crack. Double the cone area + another 500 watts is going to be louder. You don't NEED twice the power.

Second - baggedNINE7 - you're running a SEALED box. You can get away with going bigger or going smaller to an extent and the speakers still sounding good. Try doing that with a ported box and it'll sound like baby jesus clubbing a seal.

Re: mtx or kicker

cone area does not absolutey outweigh everything. i will put money on it.

those speakers can use a 6cu. ft box. youre not fitting a 12 cu. ft box in the car. that one sub with 1000watts and a 6cu ft box is going to be louder than 2 of them in the same size box with 1500watts.

i see you live in Verona....no wonder you think that way. lol. j/k
did you go to penn hills? i graduated from there in 97
