I just added a 1000w California Mono Amp to my backseat to power to two 12" Visonik Subs in the trunk.
The audio shop is tryin to sell me abunch of accesories. I bought the Amp, the amp wiring kit with the inline fuse, the box + two subs... should I buy a cap or will upgrading to a yellow top suffice?
And should I wire the remote wire into the remote wire on the harness? Or to the power cable like the dude did?

You won't need a cap 99% of the time. People always misunderstand what they are for. ALSO, why is setting off alarms and pissing off people OUTSIDE your car the goal? car audio noob since 1984.
and also, the remote wire should be wired to a switched ignition source. it is a low voltage wire just to turn the amp on, if he wired it in with the main power wire, it would be on all the time and drain the battery slowly. if the "dude" wired it up to a proper wire, then the amp only comes on when you turn the key on. If that is how it is, leave it alone.

I really just wanted to know if I was bieng hustled or not because he said it would stop my headlights from dimming (which they do).
So the amp is supposed to turn on with the car or the radio?
I say dude because he was no licensed professional, just a guy from down the street who does this type of stuff sometimes.

the radio. it should be wired to a power source that comes on when they key is either in the "on" position or the "acc" position. The car shouldn't need to be running. Also, I would advise to look into the big 3 upgrade before a cap.

Currently, the amp comes on when the key is in the "on" position. Even if the radio is off. I was just making sure that was proper because everytime my amp powers up I hear the "pop" noise from the subs. Sometimes I wanna just ride quiet.
He tied the remote wire to the red wire.

ok even if it is "tied" to it when they run to the front of the vehicle, they are not connected in the same spot. the large red wire will be attatched to the battery, the little blue remote wire should either go behind the fuse box, or somewhere else inside your dash.

Just a random thing. I rigged a remote wire off the turn signal fuse in my friends winter beater Celica. Worked beautifully. I also have my interior neons wired to that so the wont stay on with the key off.
you should always hook a switch to your remote wire too (unless your head unit has that option)... especially if you hitting good DB's .. so when you got a head ache or just cant stand the bass like in the mourning you can flick the switch and turn off your amp

Or you can know how to adjust settings and turn volume down. if you are building a well rounded system, cutting your subs off is going to KILL the sound. Unless you only have subs to be obnoxious and loud, which usually is the case. Why worry about cops if you set it up right and sound deaden the car? you shouldn't be riding around loud enough to be heard miles away. Why don't you (pete) find the first reply I had in this thread and act as if I were talking directly to you. I have had and installed and help install some pretty nice stereo equipment and I am mature enough not to have ever had an issue with sound ordinance fines... @!#$ kids...

First off I dont see why you need to come on here and flame on anyone... second i live in miami FL and there is a cop on every corner just waiting to pull anyone over for anything, and there rule is if they can here the music from 10 feet away its too loud and there alowed to check the DB's....But mainly for anything else (drugs)

i have 2-12" MTX Thunder 5500's in a sealed 1 cubic inch for each box, a SoundStream 300w Di Mono block, SoundStream 4x6's up front and SoundStream 6x9's in back [coaxil], and a pioneer HU.
i just got a court ticket for $180 for "Disturbing the Peace"
one before it, no court tho.
and i set off pleny alarms with that setup!
only 300w on tha amp pushin the two 12's rated at 300rms each.
not that im bragging, im just sayin if i can do it with a 300w, of course u should b able to with a 1000w!

AND, if we want to get into a technical argument over this whole deal: if my speakers are going to handle, lets say, 150W rms each and my amp is capable of delivering 100w rms, At lower volumes I will be feeding them even LOWER power, and getting even LESS of their potential. Most of the time, the argument of power works at any volume.
