I'm going to be completely revamping my stereo system. I would like to go with a sign 12" woofer preferably 2 ohm and a mono block amp. right now im thinking the best for me is the
Power Acoustik Mofo with the
Power Acoustik sl-3400D. with a Custom built
box to spec. (might have seen the thread)
My thought is that for under 400$ i can get a decent spl system.
I would like to get some alternatives from you guys in that price range and that power range.
the reason is that i am starting to doubt PA because i recently purchased a mtx thunder 5500 sub with an alpine m350 amp and it sounds great. although everything was turned up on the headunit about 6 times higher than the 2 12" PA's i had but it sounds actually really good. PA's had way more spl tho... and got alot louder but lost clarity..... the mtx kinda tops out..... after about 40 on the HU
thanks

so you just want suggestions on crappy loud?
A lanzar 1000d and a lanzar opti 1232d.
You will wang.
The cheapest "decent" (well, to be honest, good) SPL sub I would look at is the Audioque HDc3. $229 direct from Audioque. They won't win you any SQ cred, but can sound decent for a SPL sub. People regularly send 2500wrms to them daily, but they can get damn loud off of smaller power. Is that $400 budget firm?

yea the 400$ budget is firm. i dont want crappy loud thats why im asking for opinions. the lanzars are those good even tho the amp wont push then as recomended? and do you know what kind of airspace im going to need for one of those?
thanks again

Type Rs are quite efficient buggers as well, if you're looking for another option. They don't sound too bad in the right enclosure, and they don't need a pile of box space.
Two years ago, they were THE bandwagon budget SPL sub to have. I wouldn't give them 2kw daily like some have, but they seem to take well 1kw+ well, and get loud doing it. Do a search on the various car audio forums (RoE, CA.com, SSA etc etc).
IIRC you americans could get the 12s for not much over $100US each online at one time. You could get damn loud with a single 15" R as well.

I'm running 4 of them, and they like small enclosures. 1.8 cubes each ported, even smaller sealed. The amp will push them plenty, around 1000 watt rms. The subs will take 1100 rms.
yea my buddy has a type r with a 500rms amp and im not seeing it being enough i mean that would be a down grade (believe it or not) from the PA's
lanman- i did some research and the amp only puts out 650 rms at 2 ohm it only get to 1000 rms at 1 ohm would it be possibly to wire a sub down to 1 ohm?

If you get a 2ohm DVC sub then you can run it in parallel and it wil be 1ohm.
*2000 Cavalier sedan*
dual 2ohm coils can be wired down to 1 ohm, why wouldn't you be able to?
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

The Opti1232D is a dual 2 ohm voice coil - it can be run at 4 ohm or 1 ohm.
