1 ohm?
Friday, September 26, 2008 8:12 PM
Ok i bought my Type-R in the 2-2 ohm voice configuration so i could go to one ohm. Now are there any Alpine amps that wire to 1 ohm because I cant find any? So Im thinking towards Memphis or Rockford. Has anyone had any issues wiring these at one ohm like overheating anything major? Or a better suggestion maybe? I got time to decide. I've got to pay off a noise ordinance violation ticket, which I got when my amp was only running at half cause one channels out, first and I have to go to court for that since I'm a minor soooooo whoopdee for that. Thanks for help guys.

If the amp is listed as being stable to 1 ohm, you usually don't have an issue. A lot of mono amps will do it. What kind of budget do you have for the amp?

most mono blck amps are 1ohm stable DO NOT I repeat DO NOT BUY a 2ch 4ch etc. stereo amp and wire it up to handle 1ohm loads this will work only for a short time before you blow a fuse or burn the amp up FAST. stick with mono block amps. i have to kickers that i wired up 1ohm to prove to some one that it wouldnt work on a stereo amp (RockFord) and before long it caught fire for a slight second and only one channel worked. i currently have a 1600 watt 2ch not bridged and it pounds just fine for being wired up on a 2ohm load.

What 2 channel amp do you have that actually puts out 1600 watts? .......

800 Watts x 2 Output
1600 Watts x 1 Bridged Output
those are what was claimed to be the max wattage. since im not bridging my amp im probably getting a realistic wattage of about 400-500 per channel. Maybe this sounds better than how i worded my previous post.

Yeah but I also asked what amp... Like the brand and what-not. I am curious how crappy of an amp it needs to be that they advertise unrealistic max power ratings.

its a crappy legacy amp my wife got it for me since my car had got broke into and my rockford amp i had got taken along with my Clarion deck and my dvd screens. Dumb mexicans that live around my town couldnt get my subs out cuz they barely had room to even go in since i had to remove the subs from the box to put the box in. I plan on buying an audiobaun amp from a friend of mine when he sells his system.

Meh... to each his own I guess. I wouldn't really consider Audiobahn a step up from Legacy lol.

ive heard lots of audiobahn setups and i think they sound pretty good for bass notes but depending how much you spend depends on what your goals are. I like crystal clear sound but i want to have reliable components as well. the only thing i didnt like is that the audiobahn amps dont like to be pushed very close to their limits. Ive seen these amps burn up also but i am not usually pushing my equipment to their limits so il have to see when it comes time to looking for new stuff.

I'm just looking for something that will sound clear and make use of my sub. My Pyramid wasn't too bad but its out on one channel but I could tell there was more room to add power. I don't want to spend a fortune probably 250 or 300ish. And my Pyramid was a 2 channel that was listed 2 ohm stable and I wired my Kenwoods up that way in a sealed box and the fuses blew in about ten seconds but I put them in a bandpass and the fuses didnt blow it just got really hot really fast and eventually killed both subs.

Dude, you can definitely get a decent amp from a reputable company for 250-300. Definitely a good price range for a half decent amp on a budget.

Whats a good way to look if my looking for SPL and SQL? I dont want it be loud and sound like crap. I've been there before it sucks. I'm not fully informed about some companies I hear about. All i know is like Rockford and Memphis cause theres a dealer in the next city for those. One of my friends says he can get me a cheap Premier amp which is like 2500 watts (I assume peak). Does Pioneer have decent SQL?

US Amps any good? They have a 1000 watt RMS Class D Exterminator Amp that would do good for me and its a better deal than the aforementioned companies.

Nate pretty much said it. Not as good as they used to be. Also, since they seem to be on the decline from their former glory, watch out for any of their lower end stuff. I personally would be a little skeptical personally.

I found an old soundstream 5 channel reference 405 amp in my cousins shed along with two line drivers. Good amp? i like the idea of 5 channels and i think its less than 1 ohm stable just from reading the set up switches on the back. And i had my court date if anyone cares. 4 day license suspension and a $55 fine. Wooooooooooo.

Can't go wrong on the SS Amp here are the specs

Satellite channels:
4 x 25W @ 4 ohms (12V)
4 x 40w @ 4 ohms (14.4V)
Subwoofer channel:
1 x 50W @ 4 ohms (12V - High current)
1 x 100W @ 4 ohms (12V - High power)
1 x 120W @ 4 ohms (14.4V)
1 x 200W @ 2 ohms (14.4V)
1 x >240W @ 1 or ½ ohm

But...... I don't think it will work with the type R because you will be under powering the sub.
Re: 1 ohm?
Saturday, October 11, 2008 7:52 PM
I'm assuming those ratings are rms and it'll work i believe because the xplod I have now is putting out like 180 rms at 4 ohms and its pushing the sub pretty good. And it says on the Type R specs thats its power response is 400 watts i think. So idk.

My Lanzar Heritage amp does 2000 watts, 1ohm stable. After so many years of using it with my American Bass 12" subs, the bass has gotten muddy as hell and is usually only good for loud wailing bass from rap music.

Unless you're only going for loud, don't bother with 1ohm. Go with at least 2.
