Smallest Box??
Monday, September 29, 2008 11:45 AM
I've got a 98 Pontiac sunfire sedan.

I need to know just how small of a box I can put these two visonik 12" subs in

Dual 4 Ohm
300W RMS
600W MAX
48oz Double Stacked Magnet
Treated Foam Surround
Sensitivity: 87.9dB @ 1w/1m
Mounting Depth: 5.125"

I want it to sound decent, look decent, give them enough room & kick, without taking the ENTIRE trunk like the universal box they're in now does. i need room for other mods & misc goodies... lol

A little help

try and get the dimensions of a truck box. Your local circuit city should have them for sale, just ask about their generic boxes. I got one for my 2 10's for $50.00 and it was actually and MTX box, just none of the pretty junk I didn't need.

I dont mind an expensive box if it looks good, but I prefer it to sit in the back of the trunk instead of using the first 18" of trunk space...

They're 5.25" deep I believe. The memphis site says it should be a ported enclosure. I'm not going for any spl comps soon but I dont want them sounding like crap. I'd love some fiberglass... any takers?

I know they reccomend a ported box, but you can try a sealed box with about .25 cubic feet less than what is required and use that poly filler (I think that is what it is called someone correct me if Im wrong) to make your sub "think" it has more air volume than what it really has. Besides that, I dont know how you are going to get any smaller...

98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.

if space is that much of a concern just go with a single sub, there is no law saying you need to run two. and if u want the sound of two you can also go with a single sub that can handle twice the power.

I found these 10" 1000w RMS...
http://stores.channeladvisor.com/thedeepdiscount/items/item.aspx?itemid=2758974
( I found them on google, wasnt searching Visonik )

I guess 1 sub would take up less room than two...

So would I need to be looking into a bigger sub to compensate?

Or would 1 small sub with twice the RMS sound bigger?

1 small sub with twice the power you were feeding to two subs will give you close to the same sound.

so in theory

1- 10" sub with 400 watts

will equal

2-10" subs with 200 watts total (100 to each sub)

there are allot of variables like if your using diffrent brand of subs etc, this is just a general forumla. but just so you know its hard for the human ear to pick up decibel changes as small as 1-2 db's.
