way back when, i somehow broke both of my alpine cross overs. Am i able to replace them with any type of crossover, or do i have to make sure they are alpine?

You can replace them with any passive crossover you would like. Just be careful to pick a crossover that has the range for the tweeters that is where you want it to be and is safe for the speaker.

The only thing the passive crossovers do is separate the range of signal that the speaker receives, so it's actually not uncommon to purchase a different set of passive crossovers if you don't want to run an active setup
