Avoiding Theft

Hey All

I was wondering if anyone has some good ideas on how to mount a sub box and amp in my trunk, so that it is secure and if someone were to break in to my car they would not be able to take anything

If they couldn't take it wouldn't they just destroy it?

God i would hope not. I was kinda thinking more along the lines of they would try to steal it and eventually give up. Maybe i will just put a bear trap in my trunk.

Get a badass alarm and just bolt it to the trunk floor from the front and back with angle brackets...put the amp on the back of the box with security screws. And if you wanna get really anal, relocate your seat release to an inconspicuous spot so that they'll take a while to get ur seat down cause they won't be able to move the box without getting behind it to take off the second angle bracket. All the while ur alarm is going off...they might screw up ur sub, but that's it.

Best thing to do is to not blast your radio when you know your gonna be parking some where...Here in NYC we have a 3-5 block rule. Depending on where you are/live you DONT blast your music by your house or any where your gonna be parking. A good pager alarm and security screws help too. Also be on the look out for people following you home....

I had my trunk lock punched in twice....and I dont even have a system???? too bad they couldnt get into the trunk....dumazzes

shave your trunk lock and bolt the box down....so even if they pull the seat down they cant get to anything

also try using like a star head screw when mounting your amp to the box of floor. most car theft dont bring star head bits with them just a phillips or flat head screw driver. or mount the amp under your front seat if it fits or under the back seat if at all possible.

the easy:

1.) always park under a light if possible.
2.) park where you or someone you know can visibly see the vehicle at night easily.
3.) always take your faceplate and cd's WITH you. just putting it in your glove box or under a seat isnt going to do crap, thieves know about those little hiding spots. trust me... you WILL miss your cd's. sure they can easily get a faceplate, but at least you made it harder on them.
4.) use different screw heads, even ones not commonly used for your sub attachment to box, and head unit install kit/ dash pieces and amp attachment. there's several different ones out there, alternate and the theives will be forced to use a different screw driver/bit to get stuff out.

the hard:

1.) get an alarm with a 2-way pager and try to be within the range of the FM signal output. ive heard of some of these bad boys capable up to over a mile away. mine is good for about 3/4 of a mile. i personally have 2 sirens installed on my car, its louder then crap and it DOES get attention when its going off.

2.) attach a stranded cable to the cd player and the other end to the dash frame support. this way they will need bolt cutters to get the deck out. make sure the screws are something exotic, like an alan head or torx bit head. most thieves wont be carrying bolt cutters while on a vehicle job. mostly just screw drivers and side/wire cutters and a crow bar.

3.) always fasten your sub box down. best way to do it is you run a nice beefy threaded rod down through the trunk floor and box, then put double nuts on either end. the box will not move not matter how much they try. BUT.. just having some little brackets on the back side where its hard to get to with just some normal screws will slow them down.

4.) always fasten your amp(s) down. this is where it gets tricky because the ways the manufacturers allow you to mount the amps are less then adequate. some tiny screws are not going to be able to keep that bitch down when a thief wants it. make sure you always utilize the manufactures hold down's, but also attach a cable to it and make the thing damn short so they cannot yank on it and weaken it.

and of course... most of this is really only good for a first time break in. the next time they will have bolt cutters and will more then likely short out the alarm/car by touching the frame or body with another batteries positive side.

sometimes even every single measure and safety precaution no matter how extreme will not stop thieves. best way to combat the slippery bastards is have good insurance.

The only way I've found to avoid having my stuff stolen... is by not having anything at all. And even then, my car got torched.

Stock FTW!

dood that is AWESOME!!! although my bed is literally about 10 feet away from my car. sure there's the house outside wall and the garage outside wall but i believe the motion detector with a LOUD ASS siren on it would be ideal!

i love the silent alarm though, thats freaking hilarious. and the gun! priceless!

In the end, we're all just chalk lines on the concrete.. drawn only to be washed away.

Yeah...
2 Diamond audio D315's- $900
Custom ported enclosure - $150
Hifonics TXi 1507D- $300
JVC HU- $300

$1750

Having it all in a 'vertible makes me cry sometimes. Anyone have an idea how hard it is to get it/ get the top down? There's no way my subs/box will come out without that top down?
I too own plural guns and I park in my locked garage at night.

There's a thin line to be crossed, when the upgrades to your vehicle increase your chance to get tickets by an amount exponential enough to stop worrying and build the fastest, loudest car you can.

ehh if their going to take it let them take it, thats what insurance is about. i like my car but im not willing to die over it.

bolt things down, and allot of what zyaaaa said about not bomming etc. if u keep getting broken into maybe its the area you live in.

and on a side note. call your insurance guy and make sure you are covered just because you have full coverage doesnt mean all your audio upgrades are automatically covered. there are allot of wording in what will and will not be covered with insurance policies so its best to know before hand wethere your protected or not.

Does anyone know where to get the kind of bolts that I've seen in public restroom stall doors? They have a head shape so you can turn it to tightn in but theres not a way to turn it back. That might work for someone if they're available. Just a random thought I have while sitting in the bathroom on break. Weird.

One way to avoid theft is not to post your cars information online. You will be suprised people come to these types of sites use go to the memebers forum and search for parts and areas.
