ok i know its a weird title.....heres the thing..going to my first HIN show this weekend..and from what i understand i cant have the battery hooked up..so how does every one show off their lights and stereo without power? i know you can buy a power outlet but ac power does me know good if the battery is disconnected..i bought one of those " ac to dc convertors" and unhooked the battery and connected it to the cables but it would run the system..not to mention that seems like it might damage things...
so what does everyone else do at shows like this???? any advice??? thanks
You need a BIG 12V power supply. They cost quite a bit... but that's how you're supposed to do it. You disconnect the battery, and hook up your car to the output of the power supply. But it needs to have several hundreds amps of output if you're running a big stereo.
How do people actually do it? At every show I've been to, no one bothers with the right way... they just leave their battery connected, buy power, and put a trickle charger on it (as well) to keep the battery charged a bit... or bring a jump-pack to boost it in order to start it at the end of the show.
As long as you shut off your alarm... I've never seen anyone have any problems. Your mileage may vary... depends on the show people I guess.

even with a BIG 12V power supply you still need to have power to that as well unless you run it in too a 140v or 210v like any power outlet from a house. what you can do also is update your battiers to stinger or a red top. and have a 40 fared cap. most of my guys run any were to 4 to 12 extra battiers but they are also pushing 20,000 watts of power.
well i have a trickle charger...but it wont run the stereo just hooked up to the cables alone..it has to be hooked to the battery too i guess...im taking the car to HIN tomorrow ....but you guys say no one really unhooks their battery anyway???...i guess ill just leave it unhooked the night it has to stay inside..then hook it back up with the charger the night of the show and hope no one says anything???
...this what you guys typically see?
Sorry... I guess I wasn't clear enough. The "power supply" you buy is essentially a big transformer... so you buy power at the show, plug the power supply into that... then it powers your car.
I have only paid for power once... and that was because I had a small power supply to run my lights (I've never really had a big stereo..). Everyone around me had their batteries connected still - I felt ripped off... so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! It's not enforced "out west"

most shows like hin will disqualify you if its found your running off the battery, its a fire hazard, at the hin's ive been to your checked by the fire marshal going in. ive never seent the worth of spending 50bucks or more at a show for power to run a stereo when there so much other noise and ssytems going u can't hear your own anyways, i personally wouldnt bother with it myself.

ok show has come and gone, thanks for all the help guys! i disconnected the battery for fire marshal inspection..then after that i hooked it back up and no one said a word! we were able to park VIP with GM so they let us use THEIR power so i just plugged in my trickle charger and kept everything charged up...anyone wanting to see pics they are in the photos/media section..thanks again for the help and advice guys!! i appreciate it !!
