I own a 99 z24 and was wondering if i can change my head unit without having to re wire all of my stock speakers. I went to best buy and asked the guy there and he said that since i had the z24 with the upgraded stereo, that if i changed my head unit, i would have to re wire all of my speakers. Can anyone clarify this for me?? It will be much appreciated.
well i never had to rewire anything but i have no clue about this upgraded stereo? my 97 z24 had the cd player....is that the "upgraded stereo" i just bought a plug in wiring harness and it works just fine.

No, not for a head unit. You'll be fine.
For an amp, possibly. Though if memory serves me, weren't sunfires the only J's in 97 that came with factory amps?
Don't always trust what best buy or circuit city tells you...go to a small shop with a good rep and talk to them if you need face to face help. I used to work at best buy, and I was lucky enough to work with some really good install guys that actually knew car audio...the one 5 miles away on the other hand sounded just like the idiots you described (either that or they're trying to milk some extra cash out of you).
I've never seen a factory amp in anything pre-2000. It's not even listed in the schematics, so I'd say it doesn't exist.
Any pre-2000 J-car is easy to install a radio in... assuming you can figure out how to take the dash apart (on a Cavalier, that is) to get the radio out. And even that's not that hard...
