Looking to install 6x9 in rear deck, but Crutchfield site says none will fit... Has anyone installed decent aftermarket 6x9 in the rear deck? Assuming I cut holes in the cardboard and mount the speakers from the top, will there still be problems with depth? Will I have to cut any holes in the metal to make room for the magnets? Sorry, posting this from work, and this is my daughter's car, so I haven't actually looked at the car yet...
Search "rear speaker" and you'll get plenty of results. But I went with Kicker KS693's and couldn't be happier with 'em. I didn't have to cut any metal although I probably could have mounted them under the rear deck if I did. Here's a pic...
I fit a set of Alpine Type-R's in my rear deck without a problem...no cutting required.
sorry dont mean to thread jack but john are those stock seats?? never seen em before. BTW 6x9 should fit no problem
i mounted my lanzars under the rear deck cover and I needed to cut the metal. Mounting them above like in Johns picture will save you from cutting.
i have mephis 6x9s in my rear deck no mods required.

6x9's come straight from the factory in the cavaliers...
so obviously. they will fit.
I'm pretty sure the OP was more concerned with mounting depth and the magnet hitting the tension bars of the trunk but yeah...
i had a depth problem when i put mine in but when i put them in the deck , they fit no problem. With mine, i would have had to cut to make them fit under the deck. Just get some nice looking speakers and show them off.

wrong!!!!
the basket is tiny on the factory spks. i had to cut at least a 1/4" out of the deck to make the basket fit in the hole. its not the depth that will stop the speaker from going in, but mounting it on top of the carpet will let it fit because the basket begins to taper at the depth of the hole in the metal deck.

I had to MODIFY the crap out of my rear deck to replace my stocks with JL VR 6x9's. Not all speakers have the same frame dimensions or depths.
Same goes for most Cast vs. Stamp baskets on Subs.
My relatively dainty Pioneer TS-A6962R 6x9 speakers required no modification, save for cutting out the fabric to mount the grill.

I didn't cut anything for my Clarion 6x9, and I used the factory mount for them also, so I guess it all just matters what the speakers are as not everyone is going to have the same luck with all speakers

i installed a set of sony 6x9's i know i know sony sucks but i got the mwith the deck pulled the facotry speaker out of it's plastic mount mount fitted on the sony 6x9 simply bolted back in place fitment was fine and it was under the deck. but yeah some speakers have a larger mag than others so depending on your mag size you might have to mod some.
