need help on a system
Tuesday, October 21, 2008 6:56 PM
i bought a explorer for the winter and i want a loud system in it

i have 2 12 inch type rs with alpine amp

i want to run 2 more so can i just buy the same amp and run 4 subs and 2 amps

also i'm going to be running an optima battery for it

i have a jensen vm9512 headunit

here are my questions

what gauge wiring should i be running?

can someone tell me what i can use for front and rear speakers and an amp for them?

and should i sell the 2 type r's and instead of running 4 of them and just run 2 kicker l7s?

Thanks alot guys sorry its so choppy

About the Type R's: the first question is what is the model of your amp? Second is are the Type R's dual 2 or 4 ohm voice coils?

About your wiring: I'd suggest running 0ga for either set up...you'll be pushing around 1900-2400watts once all is said and done.

For speakers: what's your budget and do you want components?

L7's: that's really up to you...I can think of a lot of subs I'd rather have than an L7, but that's just my personal listening preference. Here's a suggestion: find some L7's to listen to and then listen to your Type R's. See which sounds better to you and go from there. And depending on budget and whether you want SQ or SPL we can go from there.

Type R's will wang. Just get a bigger amp for the two you have.

You are too cheap to really upgrade much if $200 is your budget for the 4 corners and an amp for them... You aren't going to buy any speakers for under $200 that even need more than head unit power. Just being honest here...

You are asking us opinions without really knowing your listening habbits.
Are you looking for decent sound quality?
All out loudness to piss off neighbors and other drivers?
Winning SPL comps?

What model of amp do you currently have going to the 2 subs and how are they wired? Seriously, you provided NONE of the info we need to give you any advice at all.

if you are running both those subs off that amp at4 ohms, you are seriously underpowering them. Also, what is your budget for everything? You want to set a reasonable budget and go from there. car audio gets too expensive to start with low quality cheap stuff and continuing to replace it. saving up a little longer and getting stuff you will be happier with longer will be much better on the wallet and ears.

I would honestly try and get an amp that will power the ones you have. giving them AT LEAST 500w RMS each is going to be where you want to shoot... Giving them the power they want will show you their true potential. More subs with the same power isn't going to yield better results

your forgettign jl that doubling subs without doubling power will give you an increase, the same as staying with the same amount of subs but doubling your power. though doubling power takes up allot less space then doubling cones.

Are they single 2 or dual 2 each?
