don't waste your money.
Just be safe and drive the limit or a wee bit over, don't drive like the rest of the idiots out there....

thats the only buy it now i could find in just a minute of searching but that the one i got and it works great gets them form a ways away. but i suggest you still draive just alittle over the limit because cops ARE wising up to the radar detectors. as in only turn the radar on when they have to(once they turn it on they got ya!)

Cobra is usualy a good brand when it comes to the detectors.
My brother had one and it was reliable.
But i honestly wouldn't waste my money on one.

I have a cobra I like, I only use it on the expressway for the most part. In the city they aren't gonna shoot every car, they're gonna shoot the car smoking past everyone: you. A $500 detector won't do anything for you in that situation :p

There's a thin line to be crossed, when the upgrades to your vehicle increase your chance to get tickets by an amount exponential enough to stop worrying and build the fastest, loudest car you can.

Exactly right!! I spent $350 on my passport 8500. One night on my way home, I was being the idiot speeding and got shot all of a sudden. Could have went to jail but I was lucky enough to get a $300 ticket. When I got home, the detector came out and went in my closet. Just be wise and drive within the law and speed on the track.

Yeah i have a the Cobra xrs 9730 and it was a little over 100.
I was flowing my friend in his jeep the other day on a very straight stretch of interstate both of us had cruise set at 10 over.
He has the passport 8500.
My cobra detected the cop a good 5 seconds before his passport picked up the signal.
Come to find out, the cop was almost a mile away, this thing works great for the price.

The passports ones usually are rated the best, but I have always had great luck with my Cobra purchased from Wal-mart. I even hard wired mine into the fuse box so that it turns on/off with the ignition.

Really? I can pick up cops with my Escort 8500 as far as 5km away on super flat prairie roads. That's 3+ miles for you US types. And no, that isn't a lie.
A mile away on flat roads is a cakewalk if the cop has their radars switched on.

It's been a while since I've had a cheaper dectector, but I do know that there are many head-to-head comparisons of radar detectors at various prices levels all over the net. I'd check them out.

My Beltronics 995 hasn't let me down yet. It's paid for itself so many times I can't count.

see the thing is, I wouldn't know how far my can pick up radars, because I live in the mountains and I have yet to see a stretch of road that is longer then 1mile.

since i got my cobra I haven't ventured to down to florida, which is the flattest place i ever go on trips.

I wasn't calling passports crappy, i was just saying mine is up to par with the 8500 just hundreds less.
but I would love to have a passport, i Iike the 9500, its the only one i would go with, I like the gps, and speed sensor options.

It's cool, I took no offense.
IIRC, the tests I read online showed that a couple of sub-$200 radar detectors were almost up to snuff with the high-end gear.

Best thing I can say is to research before you buy. Great bangs-for-the buck can be had if people look.
