my main focus for my car is performance and handling that being said, i run a lawn and garden battery for weight redux that is rated as follows:
365 ca 300 cca
i have a ton of weight reduction to my cay 272 lbs so far and am now willing to go back to a regular battery and the 16+lbs it would add the car starts great and runs great with this battery but...
problem is i have hooked up a standard sized battery to my car to test the speakers and they sound much clearer and the bass is better, i dont have an amp or anything just an alpine cd player and 2 alpine 6x9 in the back and some aftermarket 5" or so speakers in the front it sounds good enough for me with the larger batter but the one i am running now must not give enough amps to the speakers to get the best sound out of them (without an amplifier) so i am wondering about my options
there is another lawn battery i have found which weighs basically the same its 425 ca and 340 cca not sure if it would be enough to give the speakers the better sound though... the batter is only like $27
then there is braille batteries made by deka, but you can get the generic deka batteries that weight 15 lbs. and are rated lower but are actually the same as the braille battery (made by deka, found this info on vw forums) , they have 500+ ca or cca not sure which they run around $70-80 or so shipped
if i only need a few more amps then the lawn battery will do but i honestly have no idea if the 425 will be enough or if i would have to have the extra amps from the braille
i am also unsure if anyone has encountered a question like this before so heres hoping the experts out there have some clue.
thanks in advance
will
I'm not expert but this is how I look at it.
Right now your 365 ca 300 cca lawn battery isn't providing your alpine enough power to play your music at its full potential
A standard sunfire battery I believe is around the 600 to 700 CCA and it would have no trouble playing your music at the decks full power rating.
Even with the upgraded 425 ca and 340 cca it still may not be enough to make them sound great but it most likely will be an improvement over the 365 ca 300 cca

true it should improve it, just wonder if the 425 will be enough to let it play at its best or if the braille 500+ amps are needed... decisions decisions
get a real battery man....if your worried about 15 lbs, put in two less gallons of fuel, or take out a spare tire and jack, or find someother way. Dont jeopardize yours cars starting running capabilities to save a few lbs.
i've already done all of those things never fill it up past1/2 tank. nothing is jeopardized in the cars running/starting performance it starts in the coldest weather without a hitch and has been going strong for well over a year but its not quite enough amps for the audio.
i will not put in a regular battery. i already added 10 lbs with my rear sway bar and it made me want to cry
, with my power to weight ratio the heavy battery would be equal to a 1 hp loss. i know its only one hp but when i have already exhausted every idea i have for weight reduction well i just wont do it. i would rather have my 1 hp
audio is definately not my biggest concern obviously but i would like to make it as good as possible without any more weight so any other suggestions are appriceated
bah im 6"1 and 175 not hapening any real suggestions?
nope its a 5 speed that wont do either
helium filled tires.

losing 10 pounds isnt that unrealistic.... cut off your left arm instead, you only ned one to drive
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
although the responses are funny does anyone have any information on what kind of battery (425ca ok braille) will be enough, i am not looking for weight reduction ideas to offset a larger battery, i want to know more about the effectiveness of smaller ones, any yes i do need both arms its a f%*&ing 5-speed.
lol one arm and driving a stick. It can be done but it's a pain in the ass and probably not ideal for racing. I'm assuming your racing it because your concerned about the cars weight.

I guess no one really has an answer, The 425 ca and 340 battery will most likely make the system sound a bit better but it most likely still won't be the same as a stock battery. The only thing I could suggest is try it, if you don't like the sound still, try and find another battery with better ratings but still at weight your happy with. Or you could carry both batteries with you and when you race, swap batteries with the smaller one and obviously leave the big one out of the car.

my real question is, since speakers are, y'know... HEAVY... why have them?

if you want something small, but good, this may warrant further investigation:

I can't find any more info on it, as it seems to be very, very new, it's probably expensive, but it may be worth a closer look.

Jesus H Christ that is awesome! I have a few questions though. First, why the crazy weight reduction? If you are running this in a race/controlled state, there might be a rule that will make you fail your tech inspection. If this is going in a race machine or even your daily driver, you ABSOLUTELY MUST PROVIDE IMPACT PROTECTION FOR THE LITHIUM BATTERY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE IN A CAR WITH A SMALL BOMB. They are very fragile and will turn your car into a SFX explosion prop in a split second should they decide to blow. Secondly, have you looked at the racing batteries? They pack a major punch, and I think that red tops can be bought in the size you currently have. Check these out
http://www.rockracingbattery.com/16v.php I think they might be what you are looking for.
16 volt battery will cook stuff if used as-is in our cars.
unless you are actually using this car in sanctioned racing you wont even notice a 10 lb diffrence. thats great that you want to keep the car light but if thats the case why are you running the weight of a radio and speakers? thast probalby another 5 pounds
but honestly, buy the biggest battery your willing to run. what you had powered everything, just not to its fullest potential. going bigger wont hurt you.

How about this take out all your audio wiring, cd player, speakers all of it you'll lose about 10+ pounds. Get a mp3 player thats about a pound if that. Get a stock battery and drive with your clothes off. There you go you have a good battery in there and your music still and you also lost a few more pounds. Sounds good to me.
