Hey guys...finally going with a different trunk setup this year and it's long overdue. I've landed on an Alpine Type-R and have plans of inverting it.
I was wondering if anyone has set one up this way and if they like it/sounds good.
Basically, I'm going to build a false floor and glass my existing box underneath it. What to do with my battery, amp and capacitor are a whole 'nother problem
But I'll figure it out at some point.
Also, was wondering how people are wiring these up. I have a 1-Farad Memphis capacitor and a 500-watt Memphis 2-channel class-D amp. Guess I should specify I'm just curious on how to wire the sub.
Thanks a lot for any and all input, guys!
You may be able to get away with the capacitor on this setup. Your system isn't going to be overtaxing. I'd do at least a 4 gauge big 3.
You can invert the sub, but it's not going to displace as much as it would if it wasn't inverted, meaning your box calculations might need changed. If it's a sealed box, don't worry about changing the box calculations.
I'm guessing you have a dual 4 ohm sub. If so, wire each coil to a channel of the 2 channel amp.

Here's a picture of the sub I'm purchasing. I'm not going to pretend that I know a lot about wiring speakers for peak performance--I definitely don't. What I want out of this sub is some decent bass (shouldn't be a problem with a type R...lol) and for it to not overload my amp. I'll probably run the capacitor anyway, just because I pull a lot of power from my car for lights, pumps, etc. It won't hurt me to have it in there, y'know?

Mr. Kleindl:
I totally agree--inverted looks MUCH better, especially for "show" purposes. If it doesn't negate peformance, I'll be that much happier.
Hello again. It'll work just fine the way I told you; wire each coil to a channel and set your gains properly. You would be better off with a monoblock that does x power @ 2 ohm, but that'll work for now.
Now as far as the capacitor goes, very simply it cleans up the peak and valleys to give a much cleaner sine wave, rather than adding "power" to the setup. I'd do the big 3, make sure you have some deep cycle batteries, and you'll be golden. With some polish I bet you can get that vent cap shining real nice too.
I've had both the old and new type R's. Both sets where inverted. The newer ones are definitely louder
. But yeah they sound just fine inverted. Do it

Actually no cause its grooved so it gives it a flat look or atleast mine is. Dont you have to wire the sub phase in reverse? Thats what I've read about inverting subs atleast.
From what I understand, it's only when (1) is inverted and the other isn't.
wire it normal if there is only one of them.
