I am looking to pick up a set of 6.5 Inch Component Speakers for the front and before I do I was looking for an estimate of how much room I have between the door panel and frame of the door? Thanks guys!
(I searched and did not find a thread, I also check the speaker size sticky)

my components have a 2.5" mounting depth and they fit no problem. after you take the 4x6's out youll see that there is plenty of room for speakers.

just remember to build a temp ring to mount to the door then the speaker to that just dont use one that is too thick

They're okay, but making mdf baffles gives you a lot more rear clearance (ie: not hitting the window)
have you thought of going bigger than 6.5" and mounting them on the outside of the door panel?
Yes, but I will not go bigger then 6.5"
I am not an audiophile and don't need gigantic things in my way...

fair enough....My 6x9s do kinda get in the way. I need power windows, lol.
i have 5x7's in my door with the only thing spacing them is a piece of 1/2 inch mdf. the metra plate adapters will work fine. its not about how big the magnet is on the 6.5's but how properly matched the power input to them is to there ratings.....

I think the question was regarding how much room he had behind the magnet to install a 6.5" speaker. I assume for window clearances when you roll them down.
rms is not the max power. rms = root mean square, its the nominal power rating, or what a speaker can handle constantly without blowing. you wanna find an amp that can match your nominal power rating of the speakers without going over the peak rating of it. quibby, if you want me to look into what kind of amp will suit your needs the best let me know and ill help you out.

To the guy who just said to go bigger than 6.5's up front, and is running 6X9's in his doors... .Do not give technical or theoretical advice on car audio, sound quality, or imaging. Ever please.

Not sure on the exact distance between the sheetmetal and the back of the door panel, but my JL 6.5" speaker in Metra adaptors fit fine.

I used the Metra adaptors, also I used Dynamat eXtreme on the sheetmetal and aroudn the adaptor. Willing to bet mine sound as good as any other that are mounted in MDF.
I used JL AUDIO VR650 coaxials. That is what is in my DD, those actually have a good amount of lows to them. Also, the Metra adaptor ANGLES the speaker UP towards the driver, unlike MDF rings that are flat.
You guys ever notice, someone on here asks a simple question on how-to do something, they also note that they are NOT into Audio as much as the next guy, just want some advice. Just about everytime, people suggest they "BUILD or make somethign custom" because for some reason the average joe needs custom made rings to mount there speakers vs. an adaptor that is MADE for that puspose.
Someone wants a SIMPLE clean set-up, maybe just add a sub to fill in some lower notes not heard with stock speakers, next thing you know people are suggesting to "build and custom box"
To the people who could care less about audio, just want the basics, just let them do the basics and be happy with what you have. Instead of, "if you want the BEST SQ, or the HIGHEST SPL do this" speech everytime.
Remember, not everyone has a pissing contest with car audio.
Here are some links to adaptors
Metra 82-3300 adaptors - Plastic
Custom made adaptors 3/4" MDF
thanks everyone...
James(rolns) - very well said.. I agree with everything you said.
Dustin - LOL... thanks again man...
to those that understand I am just lookin for a great sounding system and am not entering an audio contest ever thanks

would you do these before you did a pair of Infinity 62.9i?

Never used the Infinity speakers, so I'm unfamila with them.
Because Infinity speakers just do not sound as good. I can vouch for that, and can link you to at least 10 people who know even more about audio, and have heard Infinity's speakers even more than I have that agree. Everything they make can be beat leaps and bounds by other things in their price ranges.
