So today i tried to install my headunit, car is an 04 cavy, headunit is a Kenwood MP-538U. I got the Schoshe harness for it to plug into the factory harness. I then soldered the follwing wires from the Kenwood harness to the factory one. Red-red, yellow-yellow, black-black, orange/white-orange/white, and blue/white-blue/white. When i tried to power up the unit the screen would not light up but it would eject and take in discs. I then tried doing the same thing with the key not in the ignition and it was able to eject/receive discs. So i cut the yellow (constant) wire and it would no longer do that, but the unit would not turn on with the key in the ignition. I am puzzled as to why the screen wont light. link. I also cut the blue end of the adaptor off to make more room back there, i figured it was not necessary since the grey one is the one being used. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i believe you have to run a seperate power wire from teh fuse block to the red wire on the headunit.

Thanks for the replies you guys. Now that does make sense considering when i took a voltmeter to the red wires i wasnt getting anything. So in order to do this i would have to get a wire tap and tap into anywire off the fuse block that has 12v? So for example the windshield wipers?
I did some further research into this and I think i have found my solution. If im understanding this right i need to get something called add-a-fuse or add-a-circuit and that will be plugged into the wiper fuse in the fuse box. Then i would have 2 25 amp fuses on there and have the red wire coming off the headunit connecting to the add a circuit. Is this correct?
yea except the fuse ratings... the fuse for the deck should only be 10-15 amps
Gotacha thanks so much, the only reason I was saying that was because I saw some pics of someone elses inside their car and they had 2 25's and was saying that it didnt really matter. So tomorrow Ill go out and buy that along with 2 fuses that match the one that is currently in the wiper spot. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
Still slightly incorrect, the add-on fuse for the radio should be a small fuse, like a 3-5 amp fuse (honestly, a 1 amp will probably work just fine). The red wire is only the turn on wire for the radio, not the actual constant power-supplying wire.

After instaling the add-on-fuse today the headunit started right up and everything is running smoothly now. Just gotta get my type s's hooked up to the amp and ill be set.
the easiest way to power the red wire is to use the brown wire coming off of the back of the hvac controls. Right knob...
