opinions on box/wall size

I am gonna be putting a 18" fi q series with BP power option in my cav, the manufacture recommendations are 6-10 cubic feet tuned to 28 htz, I measured the rear seat are and can fit a box 38" wide x 24" high x 20" deep external numbers, which is 7.22 cubic feet before displacement tuned to 29.791 htz and will be very well braced and 45degree corners on the inside for better air flow, and outer edges all rounded as well, once the box is in place and mounted down so its not going anywhere I will be making a faceplate to give it the appearenceof a full wall, once I start the build I will make a post for the build, right now I am just wanting the experts oninions on this build, just to name a few wysiwyg, natedogg, sndsgd and few others im sure im forgetting

Why do you want an 18" first of all. Why not go with a 15" or a 12"?

Just so you know, a 38" box most likely won't fit...the spray sealant the factory uses is hard as rock and will reduce that number. Pull back the carpet at the base of the strut towers and you'll see what I'm talking about; measure there instead. I could barely fit a 37" box in my trunk. Also, the width between the trunk lid arms is 37", too.

FOR SURE!! we had a bitch of a time getting the box in Larrys car. A cut here and a bend there though and it fit SNUG! The trunk arms RUB on the box carpet when closing the lid, and when he pops his trunk from inside the car or from his remote, it will release from the lock, but not open like a normal trunk does. To the OP def check ur measurments again.

Im sorry, but WTF?.......

All that mess for two speakers?..

why not just remove the back seat and make it smaller and fit where back of the seat would be covering the trunk, and for your amps build something small for where the bottom of the seat would be and mount them infront of the speakers.. theres so many options you could go with to really clean it up and make it look nice.. that in mho looks like complete $#!7.

Can I ask your opinion since youve had lots of setups?

What sounded better subs facing towards the driver or towards the trunk?

I have mine to the back because my tens sounded like ass facing into the interior. But apparently it worked for you.

Re: opinions on box/wall size

I like the sound of them facing into the car for daily, spl same thing but push the box as far back towards the tail lights as possible, the reason I like it that way is that I can hear if the sub/s start to distort or if something is happening that shouldnt be, for example with the subs for the rear fo the car it is very hard to hear them distort or crap out, sure you get more of an echoey kind of bass and you might think its louder but to the microphone its not, and just by knowing that I like them facing in

hope that helps lol

Ok. I would go just try and spin it around but its a tad bit big for the car so it takes like 20 minutes to fit unless I have someone to help.

And you mean the echoey bass comes from rear or front facing?

Re: opinions on box/wall size

when they are facing the rear(tail lights) it could just be the trunk rattling all to hell though too lol

also when the subs are facing into the car you dont get as much resonating sounds from the trunk area and your trunk wont get all fawked up as well lol

cant get more than 141??? are you running that DD? what is your box like? I am sure if you build a better box you should have no problems hitting a 145-148 with that sub and amp, but yes do the big 3 upgrade, 0awg and IMO add a second altenator where the a/c goes and use that one just for your stereo that way its a dedicated one

i got a box that is 2.5 cubic feet with like 75 square inches of vent tuned to 55.. sub firing forward on passanger side and the vent on the side of box (drivers side) pushed all the way back.. i think im having bad voltage dropping and i like my ac in the summer.

in a cav? why the hell is it tuned to 55htz??? our car resonate frequency is around 42-45, I say build a new box and tune it to 43htz

ya i just found that out. i was told by someone that it was 55. bad thing is this box too a week to build as i double all walls. used screws for first round then glue for other.. i might make a plug to decrease vent area.. any ideas?

I tried breaking mine open to retune and the wood started to split. I wouldnt suggest try to pry it open. The glue bond is stronger than the wood.

hahaha specially the glue i use.. i work at a wooden spiral stair manufacturer and i used our glue...

The worst parts is that MDF acts like a big piece of cardboard and soaks it up. I can see the glue in the edges of the wood on mine cause I used so much to seal it up.
