Can you put cruise control on a cav the does have one and if so how much does it cost.
on a cav that doesnt have it? ya, you can do that. im not that versed in how to, but im pretty sure you can get aftermarket units, and also get it off another cav/sunfire from the junk yard
if u use oem it is very very time consuming to remove and re install we did one couple months ago pina. aftermarket not sure about
Yes you can put cruise control in a Cavalier ( and most cars) that did not originally have it. There are aftermarket cruise control systems available. I have one in my 04 Cavalier and it works perfectly. The cost can range anywhere from $150-$250 and can be done by most places that also install remote starters.
well to make an oem unit work your going to need more than a few items...
obviously the unit itself and cable that comes out of it. if the throttle cable bracket does not have the needed hole used for the CC cable to clip into you will need one for a CC car. same thing with the TB, if it doesnt have the extra tit on the spring coil for the CC cable you'll need to get that as well. you will also need the stock cruise stalk for the steering column.
then you need to somehow figure out how to wire it into the harness. this could be one hell of a job actually, you might end up needed the entire engine harness and VCM out of an CC car, but i do not know for sure.
im saying aftermarket is the way to go.
i used that writeup and it worked wonders. it only took me about an hour or so to do. its all plug and play for the most part.
I know, I know, i'm bringing this post back from the dead.
We just purchased a 2004 Cavalier for my wife to drive, and we'd like to add on the factory cruise control. I saw the above instructions, but i'm still confused on the wiring part. If I pull a wiring harness from a wrecked Cavi, will that be the only thing i'll need wiring-wise (Of course, i'll need the other hardware as well)?
How difficult would it be to pull that wiring harness from another car? How hard to install?
Thanks!

I was going to start a new thread but since it looks like I am not the only one showing interest in this topic today I will post here. I have searched google and have done all kinds of forum crawling and I have yet to find a better write up than the site referred to in John Lenkos post.
http://www.hotrodder.com/kwkride/cruise.html definetly a good write up.
I would like to ask if anybody would be willing to share their experience installing original equipment cruise into a non-equipped vehicle. What parts were needed and what was not? The problems they ran into and any other details they would be willing to share about this project. I have read many things that would sound reasonable but then be disputed in the next post. It would be nice to separate fact/ your experience may vary (YMMV) / and crap.
I am installing OEM cruise into a 2000 Cavalier 2.2 4dr base model with the 3-speed automatic. I have the Module and the column switch and the part of the wiring harness that plugs into the module. Other than the brake switch I am unsure of what wiring I will need. I have yet to actually look into my car to see what is prewired already. A search of AC Delco’s website gives a list of connectors, I am sure I need a few of them and I know I do not need the clutch switch (obvious).
At this point I should take a trip to the local junkyards that will let me go to the vehicle and dig around. At the least that will give me an idea of what goes where and what I need and hopefully get the complete harness for a reasonable price.
I will add I don't need to be talked into using an aftermarket kit. I am reasonably sure this can be done from what I have read in forums and for less $ than most of the better aftermarket kits and I do not shy away from what some may consider a difficult project. Plus I already bought most of the parts.
I got most of the parts from a JY today, but if anyone has any idea what wiring i'll need to pull, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Alright, so I went to a JY the other day and got most of what I need. I did't want to pull out the entire wiring harness, so I cut the wires as far back as I could go. I plan on buying some more wire and using that in between connections. Here's a list of what I have:
Cruise Module (Under the hood)
Cruise Control Switch (for Steering Column)
Brake switch (to shut off cruise control when braking)
Wiring from cruise module to the firewall
Wiring from cruise control switch to firewall
Wiring from Brake switch to about 3 inches back
I think this is all I need, and based on the wiring diagrams I think I have everything matched up, but i'm confused on the PCM wiring:
On the brake switch, there are two purple wires. One goes to the cruise module, and one goes to the PCM. Based on the diagrams, it looks like it goes to the TCC switch wire. Is this correct, and if so, which wire is this?
Here are the wiring running from the Cruise Module that i'm not sure on. I'll include what I THINK I know about it:
Green w/ white stripe: PCM/VSS Sensor
Gren wire: PCM
Blue w/ black stripe: PCM
Yellow/White (can't tell): Stop Lamp switch?
Can anyone help me out with this?
