Ok. The sunny is getting a new system with some kinda unique ideas (at least I hope they are, lol) and I'm really trying to make a choice here.
I'm going with one 12 and I'm trying to decide if I want to put in my old L5 or buy a new L7 and drop that in. So to all the people out there that have had both, how much of a difference is there? I realize that boxes would make a huge difference, but just ballpark, how much is my $260 going to buy me over the L5 I have sitting here? Side note, anyone had a CVX?
Thanks!
You dead set on kicker? There are soooo many options out there in that price range that could d o so many different things for you. What type of sound are you going for, what else does your system consist of, what are you powering the sub with, what kind of room do you have to work with, over all goals sq or spl? Seriously so many factors that dictate what you buy. If you already have the L5 and are ok with the it's sound, use that. Otherwise, answer those questions on what you are looking for and you would be surprised how many other options you have than just Kicker.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

to answer your question concerning the thread, go with the L7 as if you want kicker you might as well get the L7 it is much better than the L7, now if you have a REALLy good electrical system and a very big amp I would say solo x but you dont so nevermind lol
I'm definitely not dead set on kicker, and I have a big enough amp to power a solo x lol. I'm looking for as much SPL as I can get out of whatever I can fit in my trunk. The problem is my trunk is small. The opening behind my seat is only 24x13 and the biggest I've ever fit through the actual trunk opening is 14x30x17. So throw whatever will get me the most sound. It's a challenge lol.

Lanzar Optidrive1232D. They're a dual 2 ohm sub, you'll be able to run the beast.
I could fit that. My idea here is to make a dual ported box with the ports firing forward. My friend and I stumbled on this design making a box for a CVR 15 and it's honestly one of the best sounding boxes I've ever heard. I was going to convert to buckets in the back, I have a set in my barn out of another 98 sunny, but I'm not willing to go to all that hassle when it's been done so much. But as far as I know, no one has tried what I want to do.
I'm planning on cutting the areas of my ports and sub out of the of my rear seat. May not be the most comfortable thing to sit in after that, but oh well, it never had been
So form is taking precedent over function in that I need whatever I do to fit in my trunk, in a lateral mount, ported box. And I just want the loudest I can get out of that.

I'm loving these.
Sndsgood, I think you should know that my car is in love with yours. She crys at night wishing she was with it.
I need to unload my old subs and then I'll be buying one of these.
if you really want to be unique and have great sound, go on ebay and find and old school solobaric--a round one.
I just went from an L5 to an L7 with a different amp too and the difference isnt majorly dramatic, but you can tell a difference. It doesnt take as much power to push the L7 and the bass is a little more clear and deep. I swapped because I needed a dual 2 ohm, and my L5 is a dual 4ohm.
unless you have a true 5000 watt amp, your amp isnt big enough to power a solo x..... sorry...

You can run a Solo X with much less than 5000 watts. Again, Kicker square subs have a tendency to fatigue and tear in the corners, and then spiders rub and tear. You can also get a much better sub for the price of a Solo X, and not have to recone it after every 3 or 4 burps
Never had a single problem with any Kicker product I've had and I've ABUSED the @!#$ out of some of them.
I'm looking at orion HCCA's, a buddy had two 15's and they were probably the loudest subs I've ever heard in a non-walled vehicle.
I really need to unload my old ones before I move though.
I've got struts on order, a top on order, maybe fenders and skirts, and my rims are sitting in my room waiting for the roads to be clear of salt...
Cannot wait for spring!!!

Orion HCCA's have problems even with less than recommended RMS. Do some research on the speakers before you decide on something.
