I was just trying to get some ideas on what to do about stripped screw holes for a sub box. Because I have 2 15" L7's and one of the speakers blew the screws out of the box on one of the corners for the sub....
P.S. that @!#$ pounds like crazy haha.
take some dowel that will fit in the screw holes put some wood glue on the dowel slid it in the hole then cut it off flush repeat for any holes that are fawked the just put the screws back in problem solved
JBO since July 30, 2001
or just put a whole new face on the box double that @!#$ up and dont use screws use T bolts
or you can REALLY mickey mouse it.....jam some toothpicks in the stripped hole and fire the screws right back in.
better yet just turn the sub a few degrees and make all new holes!
its really a shame that being stupid doesn't hurt more

I guess you missed him saying it was an L7. He can turn it all day, and the holes will still be in the same spot.
I think he lost credibility when he suggested toothpicks..........

He lost me there, I started on the next post.

Got a crazy idea! Stop using Drywall screws to hold in a Subwoofer!
Also, is it a particle board enclosure? Not too many times have I saw an MDF enclosure do that with large enough screws.
If he overtightened it its possible to strip the hole. I have one stripped screw on my box from that but its not on the sub. Its on one of the joints. And they arent drywall screws on mine.
Edit: Or the holes are too close to the opening and its pushing the wood out and not tightening. In that case hes screwed (pun intended). I had that on a box I had but I didnt build it.

It's a square subwoofer made by Kicker, its not round. He cant turn it slightly without it looking awkward.
Don't know if this has been resolved. But gluing blocks of wood behind the wood where the screws go through, then using longer screws is another option.
Drill 1/4" holes, buy 1/4" by 1 1/2" long Phillips head bolts, buy 1/4" Tee Nuts.
-After each hole is drilled, use one screw and tee nut to snug the tee nut up to the wood.
-Use drill to tighten it all the way down until the teeth on the tee nuts are all secure in the wood.
-Set sub into place and secure it down with the 1/4" bolts.
The screws will grab the tee nuts that should be firmly biting into the back side of the MDF face. This will allow for a heavier sub to be secured better, and not strip any wood at all. You are not holding the sub in by the threads of the screws into wood. You will now be sandwiching the sub and enclosure face between the bolt head and tee nut. Nice secure and sturdy mounting option.
Total cost for good bolts and tee nuts shouldn't run you more than 8-10 bucks. Four 4 packs of tee nuts, and my 1/4" bolts only came in packs of 5, so I had some extras. But they shouldn't cost much at all.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Why? He can go the Tee nut route, have a better and stronger mounting of his subs, and not go through the cost or work of refacing and carpeting, or rebuilding a new one.... your solution makes NO sense.

$5 to secure a IDQ 10" sub in a box I did for my buddy. Had to rebuild a box he bought because the sub wouldn't fit. Heheh..
Definitely glad someone mentioned these T-Nuts. That sub is not going anywhere the box isn't!
Just gotta find some security torx in 1/4" and I'll have a go at it.
