So,
I have 1 eD 13OV.2 in a sealed box pushing 500w rms. It is a great sub, i have had it for a year now (replaced two run of the mill MTX 10's). For SQ, it is a perfect compliment to my system IMO. However, I want more SPL! I was at Best Buy today (got dragged there, wouldent buy subs or anything from them.....EVER), and I listened to a RF 12" P3 Shallow mount sub. It sounded great for one sub considering how awful they had things setup, and I was wondering if running two of these 12" Shallow subs would give me more SPL than I have now. I'm not looking to be competitive or anything, I just want more beat. I would put them in a ported box (unless this is not recommended) and match their RMS with a new amp.
I like the shallows because of the space / weight savings. I don't like having a ton of dead weight in the car, and i'm looking for a balance.
The other thing I was thinking was 3 10" subs, maybe 11Kv.2's and putting those in a ported box.
Any opinions?
Go big or GTFO.
Ask Alex at ED. He'd know better than me about those subs.
i got 2 12" p3s(not the shallow ones) and they sound pretty good in a ported box. There running off a rockford p1000 amp, which is a little beast of an amp. the 2 p3s should put out more spl (in the right box, and powered by the right amp) and if your looking for a good box if you have the right skills, just make your own to match the specs of the sub you buy.
I would defiantly be making my own box. I haven't made a ported box yet, but there is a first time for everything.
From my experience with Shallow subs, the weight from those and conventional sub are MAYBE a pound. MAYBE It's not like you MPG or 0-60 will improve at all.
to many factors come into play to answer really, usually more subs = more spl just cause of the fact there moving more air ( more cone volume ) but really comes down to if u power them right, right box, ect.

It's a bit more than around 9 in fact. 2 Slims would weigh roughly 32 lbs Vs, my 13Ov.2 25 lbs. With more box materials, It would not weigh a whole lot more.
This isn't about mpg/0-60 its a simple matter of me desiring to keep the weight down.
id check into them. genearlly your going to give up something, i mean if companies could make subs that hit just as hard and sound just as good they all would be doing it just for the fact it takes up less space. genearlly your find you have to make compromises in something, i wouldnt be surprised if spl was one of those things, if your power is the same and your current box is ported in a generic world your looking at a diffrence of around 3dbs by adding a sub (this was if all subs and power etc were the same) if the output on the shallow mounts wasn't has hard hitting as a standard style sub your gain might even be less then that. so do some checking on specs and output and everything before you pull the trigger.
