ok to start with has anyone done a dual alternator set up in a cav?
and now how many people would be interested in a bracket that is designed to take the place of the ac compressor and mount a alt on it?
k well im more than likely going to do this for my car. since my ac compressor is allready shot and i need more power. im going to be designing a bracket and talking to some machine shops in my area about making it. it would probly be cheaper if i did more than one. not sure on the price but would any one be interested? i have the 2.4 by the way.
also i was thinking of running 1/0 gauge from the alt to a battery in the trunk and letting the battery in the engine compartment do the work for the car and the one in the trunk do the work for the system. good idea or bad idea? ill be running a 1500/1 rockford amp at 1 ohm in a week, not saying ill have this done by then but if some people are interested it may kick my butt into gear.
incase anyone is wondering why the 1500, its because it was used and a great deal.

bolt up a large case. I have a 300 amp that does 308 at 1700 rpm and 166 at idle.
and its already be done, on a second gen
Use both batteries. They'll give you more amp hours with both then just the single. I too have a big case GM alternator. Hit up Nate at Excessive Amperage.
1500 watts rms, you're not going to need a second alt. Heck with the big 3 and a good battery up front you'll probably be able to get away just like that. 2nd battery in the trunk will be icing.
I'm running close to 5000 watts rms, and I don't need a second alt. You'll be running less than a third of that, and you won't either.
I'm not sure that I would ever try dual alternators. I've got a single 200A alt from Motor City Reman, with an extra small pulley to keep the speed and output up. I can already give my 2.2 OHV reason to think about stalling with a solid bass hit. I don't think it would appreciate turning two of them.

thought about it priced it out. changed my mind upon seeing the price. and it was a homeboy hook up price too. not worth it. hell i even had the alts.
the price for the bracket cant be that much. i work at a machine shop (designer) and it doesnt cost much money to make brackets. but i understand that there is no need for it but it cant hurt to have it right? or could it? i stil might do the design but just not make it incase i want it later.

Well, if you want to, more power to you. It's going to be overkill for what you're running though. It won't hurt anything, but it won't help anything for you.
can anyone suggest me some batteries and a better alt?
im thinking about getting both of them done, 2 batteries and a high output alternater, in the next 2 weeks. especially if its really bad drain from the new amp im getting.

Excessive amperage, run 1/0 back to your amp, and Optima or Kinetic up front and one in the back. I hope you have about a grand to drop into your electrical to do it right.
wow i wasnt expecting a grand but over time possibly.....
what would you do first other than the big 3? would getting a new battery help much then later on down the road finish it up slowly?
i oculd probly spend around 500$ right now but im really not sure that i want to.....

what are your specs as of now? what are your plans?
03 cavalier
us amps 100hc running at .5 ohms

a 1500w amp hardly justifies a dual alternator setup, hell i was running 3800w on the stock alternator

k, i have a FI BL 12" sub wired to around .7 ohms (dual 1.4 ohm) i will be running a rockford 1500.1 and the box is tuned to 34 +/- .5 hz.....

I'd definitely do a run of 1/0 to the trunk and get a good battery for up front. A yellowtop will fit under the hood. Get a second yellowtop or a mid sized deka, kinetic, etc... battery for the trunk.
That would set you back around 500 bucks for just that. You'll need fuse blocks, fuses, and terminals for the wire of course.
Matt - what amps were you running?
you want to do it right. multiple batts one very large alt. and a run of 1/0 to each batt from the alt. wattage depending when i was going to run 10kw in the cav it was 6 group 34 optimas and a run to each. but now you have to slide them forward to get the weight centralized so it doesnt sag or go air bags. your handling will suck. each run should be fused. in wire and ring terminals fuses fuseblocks its going to hurt your feelings.
