ok so as my profile says i have 2 Infinity Ref 1230w subs in a sealed box. i am powering them with a 1000w Saga Audio amp.
First question.
is a sealed box the right type of box for these speakers?
Second
Are these speakers even worth keeping?
Third
i cant find any info about my amp can anyone help out with this?

btw
what is the high output jack for?
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
High input you mean? Its for hooking straight from a factory speaker wire so you dont have to use a converter to get the low level RCA input I believe. I have had a few amps with those but never used them.
ok so i decided i am going to go ahead and get new speakers and possibly an amp.
what should i look for as far as specs for speakers and amp?
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
first off what do you want. spl or sq?
typically what ever you choose get a amp that can do a little over what the rms of the subs are.

Reference are the low end infinity speaker I had a set but they started loosening up over time and started to rattle at lower volumes, Kappa perfects are better. MTX RFL is pretty mean in my opinion that's a 15" though 4000 watts peak 2000 RMS I believe. It also comes with a replacement cone and voice coil this a SPL sub. Amps ....Well there are alot of good ones out there depending on what you want it to do, how many channels, watts, what OHM stable, the list goes on. this would be a matter of personal opinion I guess?
im not really sure. i want to go the spl route i know that and if possible maybe using the amp above. just lookin for decent bass on a moderate budget. if i have to i will build my own box (with some help from the j crowd)
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
well whats the budget?

Alright before giving too much shopping advice, we need to just know more info..
1. What exactly are you looking to do with the subs? Just stupid loud bass, or good sound quality/blending with your highs?
2. What kind of budget. This is the most important part. I could recommend you a very nice sub set up with a beautiful amp, but it might be out of your price range. You gotta make sure you have a budget picked out, or have gear picked out and work your budget around it.
Those are the 2 major questions to answer. I would gladly give you advice, help you learn about what's good and what's bad and anything else you might want to know about car audio, but without any more info, it would be very hard.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

well i would like good sound quality with a lot of bass. mu budget depends on the amp in the pics above. if it will do the job 1 have $250 for 2 subs. if it will not do the job i need to rework some numbers are repair a few extra computers.
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
haha alright. Well 250 for 2 subs, looking to upgrade from the subs you have now, decent SQ, ability to get decently loud... Sure sounds like a candidate for a couple 12 inch Alpine Type-R's in a ported box tuned to about 34hz. I will tell you right now even JL's entry level stuff can sounds pretty damn good. Especially for someone beginning out in the hobby looking for a good start. I had a 12W0 ported and with 300w running to it and it kept me happy for quite a while. Even throughout all my changing of front components and amps, that sub filled in very very well. I wouldn't hesitate to look into a pair of their W1's, or I believe they just came out with a W0v2. I am tempted to try one of those out.
That amp, unfortunately, looks to be of a cheaper and lower grade variety, and definitely won't be powering 2 Type-R's from what I can tell. I personally don't have experience with SAGA, but they look like bottom of the line "flea market" stuff to me.
Anyhow, I would heavily consider saving up some money for your audio build. A decently built ported enclosure is going to run you $150 or so. The pair of subs can be had for about $250, and an amp to power them around that price as well. Good car audio isn't cheap and cheap car audio usually isn't good. Also keep in mind that a lot of die hard DIY guys and enthusiasts go through equipment fast, and build up piles of equipment they don't need. Check the classifieds on car audio forums like Caraudioforum.com Caraudio.com/forum and diymobileaudio.com You will be able to find really good deals on used stuff, and even stuff they bought and never used.

I agree with jl 100% on this one with the brands hes suggesting. the only thing i dont like about type r's are that they dont play the low lows very well.
if you build the box yourself it should only be around 75$
click sig for my car audio videos
i was considering that but not sure how to go about it. i have a box for 2 12"s now but i think i need to go ported instead of the sealed i have now. so i dont know how to tune it or why.
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
daily driving i would tune to around 32 hz.
12-16 square inches of port area per cu ft of internal volume.
then just find a port length calculator and typ n the size of the port and box size and it will spit out a length for ya.
i use this one
i would do 3 cu ft port to 32 hz for 2 12" type r's

Im disagreeing with Anton on this fact that they dont play lows well. Everyone else has no problem with them except him. Sorry Anton. My 15 does pretty well with the lows but I havent heard 12s to say for sure.
fair enough. could of just been the box it was in. he had it in a sealed then a q-logic ported box.

what would be my best option for a box?
i am not very well versed in the +/- of sealed vs. ported vs. tline vs. etc
keep in mind i will probably be building the box myself and need to save a little trunk room.

ok so i crunched some numbers and if my computer repair upswing continues i will have $600 by the end of May.
Soooooo
need some advice.
What can i/ should i get?
i will be doing the Big 3 this weekend.
what other compnents do i need to get a decent system going? I am not trying to win any comps just want a nice, clean, loud system.
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
nice clean and loud system... a really good starter system would be some good quality, affordable front components and one or 2 subs. Obviously all of that amped..
Now I would really look into finding a good box design program that will help you out building a box for the first time. If you are handy with wood work, I don't see why a simple slot ported box would be an issue to build.
Alright, as far as keeping everything on a tight budget, here is what I would say is one good starter system:
-Cadence CWM-6Kit components. For the price, I haven't heard anything that had a better sound! They can be had for $80 at www.powermaxelectronics.com
-JL W0v2. I ran a W0 for YEARS and loved it. Really good entry level sub that can keep fairly clean and get loud enough for most beginners. Now that they have the new 12W0v2 on their website (jlaudio.com) for $120, I would definitely try it out. My W0 performed really well in a ported box.
-Look into Soundstream for really good prices on decent amps. Also look into Cadence. Both companies have great priced amps, as a matter of fact all the Cadence iA amps are on sale on powermax right now, I can snag a couple coupon codes for you as well.

so am i looking for ~700w amp for 2 of those JL's?
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. - Robert Bloch
300-500 rms would feed a pair of W0's just fine actually. They are not too power hungry and only need 150RMS each to really get moving.
here, since I am in the mood to help, and avoiding working on my truck, I can do a bit more searching...
Now, keep in mind, if you get 2 of those, they are each single 4 ohm voice coil. So you can wire them together down to 2 ohms.
Here are some pretty affordable amps that could do you well:
Amp for fronts:

That amp should provide plenty of power for a decent set of front comps. The CWM's would love it.
Another good deal on an amp that will produce just a bit more power:

Amp for the subs:

as for Cadence, hell I think a second TXA300.2 would be perfect. Matching amps, low price, enough power for everything.
That is how I would do a nice starter system these days personally.
Funny thing is, I have run (and still do) TXA amps, have sold and installed a couple as well. I have run W0's before, installed a few as well. And I have owned 2 sets of CWM comps. I hate people talking out their ass and recommending things they don't know first hand.. .So I have just recommended a nice starter set up, that I know first hand sounds good if you can install and tune!
