well i finally got some time to go to the audio shop in burnsville (
BZ3 CAR AUDIO) and they have a audiocontrol mic there. i hit a 144.8 at the begining of hynotize sealed up with the mic at the kicks. and a 144.3 with the mic on the dash.
airforces also hit a 144.5 at the kicks and 144.2 at the dash all sealed up. i actually lost DBs opening the windows. is that weird?
i know i have no proof of this but i just thought i would post it up. i completely forgot my camera.....
set up is:
single 12" Fi Car Audio BL, box tuned to 34hz
Rockford Fosgate 1500-1BD
Pioneer 6000UB Headunit
Polk audio Component set.

did you block off the Vent thats in the back of the car ? gotta figure ur car acts like a sealed or ported box in ways, windows up more bass cuz theres no way for it to get out , windows down less bass cuz the sound is just venting out

what do you mean considerably higher? and i lost 1 db from rolling the windows down. but it was higher frequencies that lost the db im sure lower frequencies like a 32 or so would gain because of the sheet metal.
im going to try to go to a different shop to see if they can get a reading as well.

The AC reads about 5 or so DB higher than the termlab. Explain to me your sheet metal theory, I need a good laugh.

lol ok.
the sheet metal acts as a passive radiator when the windows or doors are open. so its just more surface area to move air and create pressure. thats is also why if you dynomat it may reduce your decibles, because it weighs it down so it cant move. however it may increase the decibels by stopping sound from escaping. or canceling noises from getting in.

What about the guys who fill their panels with concrete? Are they killing decibels?
lol. i didnt know people do that.....
and i said the benifits if you reread what i said about stopping sound from getting out and stopping cancelation noises from getting in.

Interesting.
However. Think outside the box, or actually inside the box.
So what kinda mic does DBDrag use? Dont mean to thread jack.
Termpro. Second, it doesn't act as a passive radiator, all it does is bounce waves everywhere. Less things resonating, less cancellation, higher numbers.
When you crack your window and certain frequencies get louder, welcome to a 6th order bandpass. It's generic, very inefficient, but that's what you got.

btw, you are also wrong. Spend some time talking to SPL competitors who do everything they can to squeeze more out of the meter before acting like you can give advice on the subject please. No more misinformation. Owning subs does not make you a car audio expert, people.

^^ Agreed.
And DbDrag uses a Termlab, or TL for short.
One hand is on a club for baby seals, the other is clenched to punch myself in the face.
You gotta stop that man, 1. PETA is going to get pissed eventually, and 2. your face is ugly enough, stop breaking it!

hey i was asked to say that. i didnt say that just to say "i know this. its a fact"
jesus christ people settle down a little bit.
also if you didnt notice i was asking why it did this and i had to go and think up a reason why it did that. i remember reading somewhere that the sheet metal acts as a passive radiator when the windows or doors are open. which got me to thinking. hey another port. therefor it would create more sound.
obviously i was wrong.
