Quick question about Bypass Modules
Monday, April 20, 2009 9:36 AM
I have heard of people using both 556 and 555 DEI models so I jumped online and ordered a 556LW and a 555LW to use in my 98 sunfire. Which do I need/which do you suggest? Thank you.

Either or will work. So will a PLJX

Nice thing about DEI modules is they relearn the resister code every time you start the car.

Bad thing about DEI modules, they interrupt the R-code wire, so if they fail you can't start the car. Even so, I don't know a single installer who has ever seen one fail.

The only bypass modules i've seen so far all interrupt the R-code wire so I've grown to accept it... worse comes to worse i pop the column and jump the wire if it ever malfunctions. Thanks for the input guys I guess I'll just go with whichever one looks more attractive to me.

With the PLJX you tap into the R code wire, not split it and feed the ignition side and the pcm side into it. If the module goofs up, no biggie. I just had one of the 555's fail on me.

Ehwell if either one of these ever fail on me I'll go with the PLJX but I'm not too concerned with it even if it does fail because like I said it's just a matter of popping the column cover and jumping it. But thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.
