6x9 speaker suggestions

I already have a set of Alpine type S 6x9s right now they are installed in the factory location. I was wondering if I should buy those plastic cups that seal the 6x9s off from the trunk, or should I just buy 6x9 boxs and mount them on top of the rear deck?

I wouldn't bother with any of that, honestly. Your 6X9's shouldn't be your main source of music, but if you are simply replacing the stock rears just to keep the stock size speakers, I wouldn't bother isolating them much. Maybe some good solid MDF baffles, but unless you are really building up a decent audio sustem, I wouldn't put a lot of effort into it.

It's not much effort at all. either option is going to cost me less then $20 and 30 minutes of my time. I was just told that pounding a 500watt RMS sub in my trunk with my 6x9s also going is hurting the 6x9s and I want to stop that.

It wont hurt as much as some people think, but if you are real worried about it, go right ahead and build an enclosure. You aren't going to hurt them at all doing it man.
