hey guys, i had this sound system for about a year now and i was thinking about doing some upgrades. i was looking at buying some JBL w12gti subs and possibly a new amp to push those bad boys. and i might take out my 6x9s and put a second pair of 6.5 comps in the front door (kick panels or do some fiberglass work on the doors). im already going be upgrading to another optima yellow in the trunk and trying to find a better alt. so for some questions: which amp would you recommend for those subs? size for the sub box? and what kind of speakers for the front? right now there jbl p660c......and if you have some other input it would be nice to hear
How much are you looking to spend?
the subs are pretty much a done deal....i get one tomorrow and im gonna be ordering my other one next week.....as for the amp, do you think i should just buy another rockford p1000 and call it a day or should i sell it and pick up something else??? as for price i get very good prices on jbl products because my store works with them. so for the amp 700$ if i sell my amp i have now, speakers $200 a set i dont mind give or take...
What's the specs on the subs? Dual 4 i'm taking it? Do you have an amp to run your components? I say get a matching set in kicks.
the subs are a little different then regular..there dual 6ohms subs, if i run one amp i could run them at 1.5ohms if im not mistaken. and for the speakers i already have a rockford p400-4 amp...and i was leaning more towards the kick panels also....
Get yourself another set of components, put them in the kicks, run the 4 channel bridged and feed both of the front components, forget rear fill, and go with the p1000. Everything will match and sound good.
just one more question....i dont know how im going to build the box yet (layout wise) and i wanted to know how big of a box could fit in a cavy. and i drive a 4door if that changes anything. looking around 4 to 5 cubes including the port...thx
I had 8.2 cubes in my trunk. You want it as a daily system correct? Lemme whip up some numbers.
thx man....and it is for a daily system, might do a couple comps with the car
If you can, get a 1500 RF amp. You'll want 4.5 cubes net after port and sub displacement tuned to 35 hertz.
My box is around 4 cubes. And that was a bitch to get in.
ya i have a box right now and its about 3.2cubes and its a little tight.....do you know box specs that would fit in the trunk
I wanna say mine is 30x17.5x16 but not for sure. You can probably go bigger though. I just wouldnt think it would be too removable. I had to take out the spare tire to tilt the box into the hole to make the turn. Also chipped it a bit on the mounts for the tension bars. Took me almost an hour.
there's no spare tire in my car, i removed a while ago when i put in dynamat. at 34x17.5x16 its roughly 4.38cubes then i got to factor in the subs and the port. maybe i should do a half wall??? any thoughts
You'll be down at 4.25 cubes. Go a little deeper on the rear of the box.
It wont fit through the opening will it? Measure up your car before commiting to a design.
thats the biggest problem, i'll measure it up and see whats the best way to go about it
I mean 34 will fit but youll probably have to build it in the car. The biggest problem I had was making the turn and my box is only 30.
