need opinions on this planned setup
Monday, May 11, 2009 6:34 PM
im not trying to get compitition winning sound. just trying to get a really good all around system.. just wondering what you guys think of this planned setup.. only thing i really have in mind is to try making my own false floor for the sub..

the sub is a RF P1, the amps are RF Fr2002 for the sub and one RF P4004 to power the components which are pioneer TS-A1702c and also some 6x9. i still have to get a set of new 6x9s.

also the foam ring on the sub is cracked along the seams.. is there anyway to fix this? or should i just replace it. the one i have is a 4ohm .,

The ring as in the sub surround or the mounting ring?

You can might be able to epoxy or glue it together depending how bad it is but I would suggest a new sub.

I highly advise against repairing a torn or dry rotted surround. Either have the surround replaced or get a new sub. What is your budget for sub, amps, speakers and possibly head unit? I am assuming you already have an aftermarket head unit with 3 sets of pre-outs?

Im guessing a new sub would be cheaper or equivalent to reconing a P1.

actually you could get just teh surround.. i got just the surround for a set of cerwin vega's i did and it came out perfect.. now keep in mind, these were house speakers so i dont know if u can do the same efficiently with car speakers.

speakersaver.com email them and ask if they have a surround for that sub. They can send the glue as well or you can send the sub to them and have the surround replaced for $35.

You don't need a capacitor at all.

I might be able to put together a nice wiring kit for you, I have a ton of very nice JL audio RCA's here as well as a ton of extra wire... but let me see what I have. If you want a cheaper route(JL RCA's aren't the cheapest lol), I can help find a decent wiring kit for you.

Well save your money on the cap. You will not need one. Dimming lights is not what it is made for. Everyone has the wrong impression of what a stiffening capacitor is for.

Anyway, I will see what I can throw together with my JL interconnects and wire I have. At the very least, I have so many of these brand new JL wires, I can do that for ya. Then a cheap amp power kit wouldn't be much.

Ok, what I have that will work for you...

1- 12ft. JL Audio Standard series 2 channel interconnect set for $15.00 shipped($3.00 less than I am actually asking, but @!#$ it. To help a JBO member, I can cut it down a tiny bit lol)

1- 12ft. JL Audio Standard series 4 channel interconnect set for $20.00 shipped($5.00 off)

If you do like I usually recommend and remove the center console and go from the head unit, under the console and under the carpet down the center of the car, 12 feet is plenty. I do have 4 channel 18 footers if you go around the side, but no 18 foot 2 channels.

If you want something cheaper, and longer, I have a bunch of 20 ft 2 channel Sound Quest Competition series. I could give you 3 of those for $12.00 shipped each.

All these are brand new in the original packaging. Let me know if you are interested. Help you get some high quality RCA's, and help me get rid of them for money tto fund my new system in my truck
