MRP-M500 alpine (this is the one i just got) 500 watt mono
ZX200.2 kicker (this is my old) 200 watt 2-channel 100 per channel
my sub is a W3v2 d2 12'' JL
the kicker hit pretty hard and i switched out to the alpine today because i was never getting the most out of the sub with the kicker, but when i put the alpine on i would probably say it sounds either the same or worse... why is this?
Could be wired wrong, could be tuned wrong, a lot of things man. How are your settings?
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

the 3 knobs are up 75% and i have a 4gauge wire for ground and battery and it was to big for the alpine so i only used half the wire so it would fit but besides that i think its hooked up right ill play around with it more in the morning
Did you just arbitrarily set your gain, LPF, and Bass boost to 75%?
First off, turn the bass boost OFF, you'll not a major improvement in sound quality.
Turn the LPF to 80, let's not complicate things.
Now gain, turn it all the way down. Crank your stereo until it distorts, then back it off one notch.
(I certainly hope you know what distortion sounds like)
Turn the gain up until the bass distorts and again back it off. It's easier to tell if it's distorting with "higher" bass.
There is a thread on here by alexlindeman on how to set gains with a multimeter, although most amps aren't accurately rated so I prefer the by ear method.
(I'll defend the method if I must, but lets not clutter this thread)
that wont mess up the sub will it?
and i read the sticky before making and post actually i read 3 of them @_@ but i missed the part about the amp i probably skimmed to fast
nvm im just going to take it back and put the kicker back on.... and now im against the alpine brand
p.s. base boost at least for my sub does dramatically increase bass
and maybe its because the kicker has a higher db of bass boost that it sounds better.... and my sub doesn't distort easy
Bass boost is going to clip and cook your woofer. No doubt about it.

You're against the alpine brand because you don't know how to set gains correctly?
you probably hate vagina because you don't know how to smash correctly.
I have the same amp and I know what the OP is talking about, the bass boost is more of a volume adjustment because if it is turned down anywhere below half good luck getting any sound out of the sub regardless of the gain setting.

thank you someone who was useful...
atk2008 are the speaker input leads useless? that plug with the four wires? never seen it on anyother amp and right now im not using it if so were do you plug it up.
i still have awhile to play around with it before i take it back.
Hmm..Same amp I have and mine sounds GREAT powering my Diamond Audio D3 10 inch...Maybe your sub is not all you think it is.. You need to pair a good amp with a good sub. Get someone who knows what they are doing, and I promise you that you will love that way that amp powers a decent sub.

lol just like you said i need a "good" amp for my good sub because the alpine isn't doing its job over the kicker like it should with twice the rms at 2ohms
Alpine is a great brand, so is Kicker. You just don't know what you're doing.
There, I said it.

WOW! Stubborn and can't admit he might have made a mistake or doesn't know what he is doing.
What kind of sub do you have?
How big are all your power/ground wires?
How good is the quality of the install (ie: are all wires spliced correctly, properly insulated)?
There are a lot of things that could be the issue here Flash. Before you go off and say Alpine is a no good brand, why don't you double check all work and get it tuned properly first.
Like I said before, once tuned properly, with a sub that can handle it and is of decent quality, the Alpine will work beautifully and sound great.

He already addressed the items said above.
Im using the bass boost on my amp and it doesnt change sound quality and Im not cooking my woofer either. But I also did set my gains properly.
If you set your gains properly, the bass boost isn't needed. You are spiking a specific frequency range... It is not a volume knob.
ANYWAY, ATK and the OP are stubborn idiots who can't admit when they don't know how to set and tune their stuff. After each of theirs comments in here, I don't feel bad being a @!#$ dick about this at all.

me and my buddy set his 500 alpine by setting the boost at 1/3 the way and then using a dmm to set the gain and it sounded just fine. powered his type r pretty good.
your tuning is just wrong and do it right for once. also it could be that your head unit's settings are wrong. could you post them for us to see?
the more info the better....

Im just compensating for the peak my box should have if it would be tuned to 30ish hz til I get it done. I tuned it without the bass and it sounded flat as ass like you said it would.
because it does sound flat when you turn the bass boost off these fools dont know what they are talking about well they might in some intances but obviously all amps are different and they are talking about this one like they know something alot are talking but i dont here any useful info so alot of pointless post in this thread

for the record you guys started being little ***** first
your right i like my alpine head unit and i always thought they had good head units but as far as their amp is concern thats a different story and as far as hooking it up right its hooked up the same as the kicker was not to hard to switch out a amp... and as far as gain, wire gauge its a 4gauge. other than that i said all this already read post
sorry for tripple post but bradsk88 dont acuse people if you aren't gonna post up any usefull info that makes you look like you dont know anything either.
