is this true??? (radio info cavalier 00+)

i was lookin all around the web for "how to" for the radio and i came across people getting the radios locked and then i also found this .. i just wanna kno if its true

"You can permanently disable the Theftlock on the pre-2000 radios (I believe it changed in 2000). After 2000 you can’t really disable it, but it doesn’t really matter since you don’t need to mess with codes/or combinations. The 2000 and newer radios somehow match up with your vehicles VIN number in the car’s computer. At least, thats how it was explained to me. Bottom line, the only time you have a problem with a 2000+ radio is if you try to put it in a different car than it came in."

got it from http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic250165.htm

If you wanna pull the factory deck out of a 2k+ J-body, it will not work in another 2k+ J-body without being unlocked at a dealer. I'm not certain if its VIN locked or what, but I know the factory deck and the BCM are in communication.

Exactly... the BCM and Radio are linked. You can re-program the Theftlock on a 2000+ radio using a GM Tech 2 diagnostic tool....

I have a stock 05 Sunfire Monsoon MP3 deck in my 98 Cav Z24, swapped with an 03 Ecotec and PCM... needed a trip to the GM dealer to "reflash" the BCM for the radio, as well as the airbag SDM to work properly.

SOMETIMES is does not need to be reprogrammed. ive had 2 radios in my car, none reprogrammed all worked. But maybe the monsoons are different than the others

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Nah, Monsoon just uses an external amp to drive all the speakers. The deck is the same (except for the silkscreen logo on the front) as the other Sunfire decks.

All Class 2 radios are supposed to need reprogramming with a Tech 2. You just got lucky

very lucky, 3 times haha. yea cause i scheduled an appt with a dealer, put in the new radio and then on the drive over turned it on and low and behold it worked. same thing happened another time too actually.

if anyone needs a monsoon radio i have a spare
