If I buy another oem radio/cd player for my 05 sunfire what do I need to do to make it work in my car? Thanks
I think the dealer needs to use a tool to install it, that way it matches the computer. I'm not 100% sure, but I also think it needs to come from the same vehicle. For the money for the dealer to do that, you can have a dash kit/harness and aftermarket radio.
They make a electrical box you need to wire into the cars stereo wiring harness as the radio also controls the door audio chimes and a ton of other crap that makes no since. Call the guys at Crutchfield.com and they will get you set up, its simple to install, just takes a little time. You need to reproduce the code that the radio sends to the cars computer to bypass the Delco-Theftlock. What was GM thinking on this one? Mark

It doesn't control a ton of other crap. You can do a 10 dollar harness and you lose your chimes, or you can do a 40 dollar harness and you get your chimes. It doesn't control your air bags or your oil light or none of the other BS.
what is this 10 dollar harness and were can I buy it?
Best Buy and Ultimate Electronics carries them, as well as most car audio stores.
does it have a name? what do I ask for?
Metra harness for your year vehicle. They should be able to look it up.
I made the mistake of installing the Scosche door chime replacement box, waste of money and can get REALLY annoying at times. On occasion it will, for some unknown reason, chime constantly, even after the car is running and moving. It's VERY annoying when it does this. Not sure if anyone else has had that problem or not.

Check Lenko's sticky and my sticky, I think they both have it. You'll also need an add-a-circuit.

Swapping a factory deck from one 00+ to another will require taking the car with the replacement deck installed to the dealer so they can unlock it and match it to the BCM. Its a simple matter on their part of plugging in the scantool (probably the Tech9) and hitting a few buttons. Total cost should not be more than 1/2 hour of labor as long as you've already done the swap yourself.
