i give up on this system
Monday, May 18, 2009 6:33 PM
so i have been having problems with my system for awhile....when i turn my subs up...my amp makes a clicking noise and the subs cut off....i cant even turn my subs up at all now...i have the bass all the way down and have my fade to the front so my subs wont play...one problem is that the boxes are too small for the subs...im thinking maybe the voice coils went bad...they are kicker cvxs and are being powered by a kicker 1500.1 zx amp....i have checked all the wiring....and when i turn my bass boost down, there is no bass at all...i didnt think the boost was a big factor in bass but i guess on the zx amps its part of the gain or something im not sure....but the amp doesnt go into protect mode it just cuts the subs off and clicks then clicks again when i turn my volume all the way down and the subs cut back on but they only stay on when the bass or volume is all the way down???? what could be the problem

Check the impedance of the subs, probably too low.
Could be a fudged coil that shorts out when the subs move
Could be a bad amp
Could be a bad ground or too small power/ground wires

Take out your subs and inspect them. Check for loose tinsel leads. Push the cone in a bit. Shake it around. Listen for noises.

Did you replace your crappy head unit? You're all about starting 27 posts on the same subject.

i know well i thought the problem was fixed and it came back so i made a new post...no i havent changed the head unit because i wanted to wait till i figured out what was wrong with my system....i have inspected the subs so its gotta be the fact that i used 4 gauge wire instead of the recommended 0 gauge...i guess ill eventually figure it out..i dont wanna buy new wire and it not be the problem though

does the amp get burning hot?

what did you check/replace to try to fix this problem? have you tried to turn the gain or bass boost down?

and does the amp go into protect mode or does it just shut off what exactly happens? does it stay on but the subs dont get power?

do this to check your sub.

Dude has pyle head unit, medium sized amp and fairly good subs in a teeny tiny sealed box.

Could be one of a few things:

1 - Crappy head unit
2 - Subs wired wrong
3 - Gain set wrong
4 - Too small of a box

sorry about all my posts but im just fed up....i checked the subs today with a meter and they read as if they are working fine so it has to be the amp...the amp started off not cutting off it would stay on and not go into protect but the subs would stop playing...now the light shuts off completely but it never goes into protect.. the green light just turns off when the bass hits then comes back on....the amp doesn't get hot or seem over heated at all...when i turn down the bass or gain the bass output is so minimal that it would be pointless to even have a system in there at all...

What coils for the subs, and how do you have them wired?

Re: i give up on this system

they are dvc 2 ohm and wired with a 2 ohm load on the amp

Is your gain set properly?

See if you can borrow a buddy's subs and hook em to your system.
or try running the amp without subs hooked up and see if it still cuts off

for all the problems you have had why not go to a shop and ask for help. you obviously have more then one issue ,i mean starting out your not even running the proper sized power wire, wether it fixes the problem or not really doesnt matter. either hook it up right or dont' hook it up. do it properly before you burn your car to the ground because you wanted to say a few dollars.

well i agree with you sndsgood but the people that installed it were pros and they said i didnt need 0 guage wire thats why i dont wanna go back to them because they have screwed my system up

Then take it elsewhere. Or do like we've said. Or take everything out.

your amp is probly fried, they more than likely wired your subs wrong and you did too low of an ohm load on the amp for too long.

check them and come back

wire like this.

so i checked the wiring based on that diagram today...when i pulled the sub out the box all that was wired right but where the positive of sub 1 and 2 are supposed to meet met at the amp instead of at the box holding the sub...same for the negative so the positive and negatives met but at the amp instead of running a wire from sub to sub then going to the amp....that wouldn't make a 1 ohm load though would it???

if it would change it would be a 4 ohm load.

so the sub isnt wired wrong.

the fuses on the amp are good?

it sounds like you need a new amp. got any audio shops around you that can help you?

there aren't fuses on the amp...which is confusing but there is an audio shop but they are the ones who installed it in the first place so im hesitant to go back to them

If a shop installed it and you are having problems, bring it to them. Plain and simple that would have been my first option. If anything they installed or tuned is not right, they need to touch it before you do or they might just void any warranty on their work. Bring it back, be polite. and No, whatever you are running probably didn't require 0 gauge btw.

ok well if i cant get the amp fixed i have made up my mind that i am selling the cvx's and switching to the new Memphis S class 12 inch D4...It has a rms wattage of 500 watts and a peak of 1000...if i were to get these subs to conserve air space, what memphis amp would go with them that would give them plenty of bass....i looked at the PR 1000 watt amp but you have to wire it at 1 ohm to get all 1000 watts out of it and these subs are DVC 4 ohm...so could someone help find the amp that was made for these subs?
