So, you want to do a show car of sorts, and you don't want to have a head unit. You have your whole entire library on that 120 gig Ipod, or the 20 gig Zune, or whatever device you use. You've got some amps running your front speakers and your subs.
You'll need the following:
1 - MP3 player with headphone out
2 - Line driver
3 - 1/8 inch stereo headphone to RCA MALE
Your MP3 player's headphone out only puts out millivolt to run the headphones. Need to get the voltage up somehow. Introducing the line driver. Planet Audio is the one that comes to mind, the PLD6. It has up to 3 in and up to 3 out. So you can take one line in, and feed it up to three lines out!
Set your gains with your mp3 player at 3/4 volume, equalizer off, and voila.
Last time I checked, headphone amps in mp3 players put out more than enough voltage to run a system.
You can go that route, but then you'd need a bunch of y splitters to feed the amps.
Also set a volume limit on your iPod so it doesnt get bumped up higher than 3/4 and burn your speakers up.
I am planning on doing this setup in my car I have no room for a head unit I'm not very good with car audio so let me run this by you to see what you think. My car is a 34 plymouth so I have limited room for a head unit hence why i'm doing the ipod only setup.
for the rear I have 2 american bass 6x9's 3way speakers 200 watt max 4 ohms
and for the front I have a Power Base Extreme component set 85 watt rms / 170 watt peak 4 ohm
and that set has tweeters and the control boxes. (sorry I'm not sure what they are called)
and I have a set of 4" coaxial speakers 50 watts rms/ 75 watt peak
my amp that i'm considering is a Sony 4-Channel 600-Watt Xplod Amplifier, XMZR604R
Max Output Power / Channel Qty: 110 Watts x 4
Crossover: Active crossover
Response Bandwidth: 5 - 50000 Hz
Continuous Power / Channel Qty: 60 Watts x 4
Amplifier Output: 4-channel
High Level Inputs: Yes
Crossover Slope: 18 dB/octave
Low Pass Frequencies: 80 Hz
Amplifier Output Details: 60 Watt - 4 Ohm - 20 - 20000 Hz - THD 1.0% - 4 channel(s) ¦ 65 Watt - 2 Ohm - 20 - 20000 Hz - THD 1.0% - 4 channel(s)
It's $88 dollars at wal-mart I don't drive this all that much so that's why i want to stay on the cheap with the amp
I just want enough to listen to some music a little bass. I wasn't going to even put a stereo in the car but I have all of those speakers laying around. so what do you think about this setup and what should I do for front speakers the component set of the 4' coaxial speakers? any tips would be helpful
Thanks man I appreciate your help I'm going to start making door panels and get this all together I'll try to post pics when I'm done.
I went shopping today decided to go to HH Gregg before wal-mart since they sometimes have good sales well I got a 4 channel MTX thunder elite amp for $100 so I'm using that instead of the sony from wal-mart.
