Hey, I'm rebuilding my system, and I want to put in a more powerful amp, upgrading because my new Sony Xplod 50X4 puts out more power than my old Boss and my old amp just plain sucks. I have a seperate sub channel on the Sony deck, and my plan is to mount the new amp in the trunk behind a custom box right behind the seat. Here is my plan
Old AmpPowers:
2-3 way 6X9s (~60 Watts RMS each)
2-Large Horn tweeters (~15 Watts RMS each)
I don't remember the rating on the amp, but this will push these speakers to about 100% with the amp wide open.
New Amp (200Watt or 400 Watt 2 or 4 channel)
1- 10" MTX Sub or Lightning Audio 12"
2- 6.5" Mini-Subs
Now, here's my questions:
1) How should I run the power lead for the amps? Is there a way to set up a keyed+fused lead from the factory wiring, or will I need to run my own lead?
2) 10" MTX sub(used) or 12" Lightning Audio(entry level cheap thing)
3) Will the sub sound OK on 200W or should I go with the bigger amp?
Thankjs for your opinions, I'm just getting into subs so I need opinions and advice.

2) 10" MTX sub(used) or 12" Lightning Audio(entry level cheap thing) - flip a coin, they are both going to sound craptastic
3) Will the sub sound OK on 200W or should I go with the bigger amp? - it'll sound fine.

take all the money you have for the 10's and 6.5" subs and just buy one single high quality sub. 1 high quality sub will sound better then 3 or 4 bargain basement subs. when you have your sub picked, find an amp to properly power it. and look into purchasing a nice componet setup up front and an amp to power that, and then your on your way to a nice sounding system.

QFT. Do it right the first time. If you have a limited budget (which it looks like you're 16), don't waste money on junk again and again and again.

car audio noob since 1984.
Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time there was a 16 year old boy who bought his first bass package from walmart. It was a visonic 12 with a built in 350 watt amp, that pushed more like 50 watts

He wasn't happy with this system so he "Upgraded" to two sony explod 12's.
He thought these were great until he bought his Diamond D315's. Then he @!#$ bricks when he heard what decent subs sounded like. That boy was me.
Don't buy junk gear. You will regret it.
