Starting on trunk setup
Sunday, June 07, 2009 9:58 AM
I am starting on my trunk set-up now and I don't know anything about doing sound systems. My plan is to have a flush set-up and I need to know what material to use.

I want to do something like this set-up as a reference:

Also do you need to have supports for the subwoofers behind the wall?

Any help would be appreciated as well as pics of people who have done something like this.

That is not just a wall. There is an enclosure behind that. You don't just run subs free-air(usually, unless you know what you are doing). And depending on the subs, you won't need supports in the box for them. Justa nicely built box. Use 3/4" MDF to build everything.

ye thats not a wall, you could bulid your box to spec for your subs. Then build a plate to cover them like in teh picture to make it look like a "wall". Just remember to measure 1 trillion bazillion times before you cut...lol

mdf for the box. for the trim panels it just depends, could go with like 1/4" birch or oak or something or if its a thin panel not holding weight u can use hardboard to keep it lighter. as for what type carpet, whatever you feel looks the best for your car. you can glue most carpets on to your panels or if its wood you can wrap it around and staple the back side.

Go to a fabric store and bring a sample along and match it up.

buy enough carpet to redo the trunk, it will never match up and always be off if you dont. just buy an extra yard or two which will problaby cost you maybe $20 more and that way the trunk matches perfectly and it looks like a finished build. not just an added in piece.

most standard carpet is cheap its only when you get into the high quality suedes and leather that it gets expensive.

when i buy nonbacked carpet (like the stuff on most sub boxes) its so cheap i'll usuallly be 3-4 extra yards just to keep some around.
