Okay audio guru's
So I'm posting this for a friend.
He wants to put a system in his '99 bmw 3 series, (probably two 10's)
The only thing stopping him is that someone told him it's a bad idea to put sub's in car with a carbon fiber trunk.
Seeing as though the trunk cost him 900buck plus shipping he doesn't want to get rid of that for a system.
Do you guys think it would be okay to have a system with a CF trunk?
Any of you have experience with this?
I told him I thought it would be fine honestly, especially if he put some dynomat down.
Thoughts?
all i know is a buddy of mines hood cracked from going inside of his garage to outside in the winter. its was also crabon fiber. but im not sure how it would break? isnt carbon fiber stronger than fiberglass and people make boxes outta fiberglass.....

Those hoods are a layer of carbon over fiberglass which isnt stronger than fiberglass really.
dont qutoe me cause I dont want to be held responsible but my stereo I had in my cav with cf trunk was hitting 148db and I had no issues at all other than it flexing like mad but no damage, IMO unless you are racing there is no need for a real cf trunk , just get your stock one wrapped for the look
good posibillity if it is for a bmw and cost 900 bucks its a real carbon fiber hood, not the cheap junk they make for the j-bodies. tell me to get some subs and put them in allot of people have done it in the past. worst issue will problaby be rattles but if its a properly made lid it shouldn't be an issue. if it rattle bad tell him to aim the subs towards the interior and then seal off around the box and interior cabin, this way all the pressure goes into the interior and not the trunk.

ive never sealed a box into teh cabin facing them towards teh car but i also i never liked teh way it sounded facing that way. To me i just didnt feel or sopund teh same as if they were facing teh trunk...just my 2 cents. But it really soundnt be a problem if its a "real" cf trunk, if it rattles to much you cal just dynamat it, its not like hes worried about weight if hes addin a sub/box plus wiring and such which adds weight, so dynamat shouldnt be an issue.
only issue i had with my cf trunk with my system was that to top of it made an awful rattling noise. Sprayed some foam in it and walla, no more rattle.

if its not pushed forward and sealed to the cabin then it wont sound anything near or hit as loud, its like two completly difrent installs. you can't judge it by just facing it forward, just facing it forward cause cancellation. sealing it up gets rid of all cancellation gives you a more accurate sound and more spl.

the only cars i had facing to the rear was my probe and my escort wagon, cuz face it wagons and hatchbacks funnel the sound forward. but to my point i have my subs facing to the interior and they sound really good, are loud and feels like the bass hits harder. plus i have a band-pass box . at the time im dealing with trunk rattle and tryin to sort that out any ideas audio guys pm me

I think illdwes is perpetually drunk. I can never understand anything he says. Hatches and wagons are completely different animals, not because they "funnel the sound forward", but because you don't have a trunk to have to seal off for cancellation.

from what ive read its more about the horn effect the hatchback has (if its a slanted stlye like a 2 door car). because of the slanted back it amplified the sound.
