sub cutting out
Saturday, June 13, 2009 8:00 AM
i'm at work and shouldn't be online, so i'm making a quick post instead of searching...sorry.

i got tired of my old beat up Earthquake amplifier barely pushing my kicker cvr, so i upgraded. ever since i upgraded my sub has hated life. it'll run for about an hour and then start cutting out. sometiems it comes off and on, sometimes i can turn the stereo off for 5 minutes and then it works again for a little while, sometimes its just dead and won't kick on for a few days. i don't know if its the brand new amplifier, or the 6 year old subwoofer...the grounding points and wiring is all the same as what i was running the old amplifier (except for a thicker power wire).

here's a link to the specs of my bazooka ela 500.1 amplifier

here's a link to the specs of my kicker cvr subwoofer

its a single channel subwoofer amplifer, wired to both voice coils at 4ohms. the amplifier gets hot, but not so hot that you can't put a hand on it. and there have been times where i get in the truck in the morning for its first use and it won't kick on, so i don't think its an over heating problem.

so there you have it...any hep?

i'll jump online throughout the day to see if anyone needs any other information.

GO PATS!!!

Check wiring for starters, check for a good ground and a good positive connection. Check your coils on your sub, make sure each reads around 4 ohm. Tell me you love me later.

already checked all the wiring, don't have anything to check coils...

and i forgot to mention that the whole time all of this crap is going on, the amp stays in ok mode. never goes in to protection.

what are the chances that a 500 watt rms amp is just killing a 400 watt rms subwoofer?

Your amp isn't putting out 500 watts rms. Does your multimeter have ohms on it? Are you sure you have a good ground?

Hell, does Bazooka even HAVE a thermal protection circuit?

Had the same problem with my setup. I'd really critique your wires and make sure one or more didn't suck up some water. ( that was my problem). I also noticed you said its the same wiring as before EXCEPT for a lower gauge power wire, hopefully you replaced the ground wire to the equal size as the new power wire?? best i can think of now

144db@38hz! It hurts so good !
